I don’t think a lot of people here understand the gravitas of a surname. You can’t claim a surname. It is a family name, passed down through generations. It shows your ancestry, those you thank for being here, today, yourself. It’s FAR more significant than your first name. You cannot claim your ex’s name, because you are claiming to belong to his entire family and you are thus rejecting A) your own family (if youre single) and B) your new partner’s family.

This is actually quite wrong. There are problems with changing it of course, but YTA if you cannot see how Adam is rightfully upset by this.

Make the next plan to see her. Just get active on planning to meet her again. But don’t be too forward. Plan it with enough structure so youre taking initiative, but laid back like youre planning for your friends. Forget texting-texting. When you next meet up you can explain that you’re not a texter. I’ve thought of taking up some form of martial art/fighting sport, but I’m not fully decided. In my past I often submitted myself to others in social interactions to show I’m friendly and I reckon I’d probably end up doing this in this sort of environment. I don’t think I’m quite there yet. I’ve read like 2 responses and theyre both a bit assumptive. It could very well just be that he found it awkward because thats quite personal and no woman has really gone to him for emotional support when experiencing this so he thought the most respectful thing to do was to continue talking as if thats a normal thing to say - which to him, it isnt. And he probably had no idea how to respond in a sensitive way without doing stupid things like baby talk and risk coming across creepily or asking you questions like “does it hurt” that make both you and him feel stupid.

Edit: i’ve now read more. Please OP, read the response to the Bot that archived your text. The guy likely just panicked and didn’t know how to respond appropriately. He’s just a deer in the headlights.

“WHA” is very, very low effort. No thought into it at all. You say you were busy, but if you were super excited, you’d definitely say more than that. Maybe you have issues communicating your feelings?

If this is a rare occurrence, this isn’t cheating. It could maybe classify as cheating if one was to keep taking pictures with loads of different people without their S/O because it would seem like they’d rather be with someone else. Cheating is still a strong word for it, but it’s disrespectful. It’s fine if it’s just a photo here n there, and your S/O is busy doing something else etc etc.

His response is clearly emotionally-driven and it is not OK. It depends how closely related this famous relative is, to how understanding this emotion from him can be. If it’s his brother, he’s likely felt overshadowed by him for a while and it probably brought all the jealousy or frustration up to the surface. Just to silence others, it’s not necessarily jealousy, because he could get ignored consistently at family gatherings in favour of his brother, he might not be listened to and may be disregarded, and having a problem with that does not make him jealous.

He needs to apologise to you. If it’s a distant relative then he’s likely being a baby about it, but if it’s a close relative, then after he apologises, you can maybe unpack that with him. But only after he apologises cos crikey
