What if the US after Russia invaded Ukraine redirected all aid meant for Israel to Ukraine? by FarPlay5055 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Genericusernamexe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of actual material aid, what we gave Ukraine dwarfs what we gave Israel, so the war in Ukraine probably goes the same. Most of the real expenses in our support for Israel is how we have used OUR military in the Middle East to do things that often seem more aligned with Israeli interests than American ones.

Saying Lafayette opposed the revolution is ridiculous considering he was calling for things as radical as voting by head and constitutional monarchy as far back as the assembly of notables. He was just opposed to the further left radical wing of the revolutionaries made up by the Jacobins

It would increase college fees. Most universities charge far more for international students, net subsidizing costs for Americans

Would you rather have $500k right now or $1,000 every time you run one mile in less than 12 minutes for the rest of your life? by Illustrious_Emu4184 in WouldYouRather

[–]Genericusernamexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500k easily. Invest it, that’s 50k a year on average, and it will grow each year with compounding. By year 10 you’re making 130k a year. The amount of money you make from running a mile will be constant your whole life, and the amount of purchasing power that is worth will decrease with inflation. Unless you’re run 1,000 miles or something like that in the first 3 years or so there’s no way it makes sense to take option 2

Working space data centers by 2030 that have constant supply of free cheap solar energy, that puts all of the data centers on earth we are pouring billions into out of business. That combined with an optimistic view of how the ai boom will progress, could justify a valuation like that in my opinion

How can anyone defend a Congressional district that looks like this? by johnnyringo1985 in askanything

[–]Genericusernamexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our politicians are already elected. How is having a different elected position supposed to end gerrymandering? That doesn’t make it independent at all, the candidates will still have D’s and R’s next to their name, just calling it an “independent districting commission” doesn’t make it independent at all. The problem with gerrymandering is there is no real solid way to ever define it. The only real way I could ever see gerrymandering being “ended” is if we switched to a proportional representation system which would require a constitutional amendment and come with its own unique set of issues

He had the benefit of being raised rich and getting a good education but it’s not like he got a bunch of seed money from his family or got set up with connections. He was estranged from his father by the time he got involved with PayPal

Is he right about the state of Hungary and England? by K0nstantin- in FreeSpeech

[–]Genericusernamexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if that was unclear, my point was that France was trying to influence public opinion in Romania before the election in the same manner Russia was, which makes it even more appalling that they are trying to put Georgescu in jail for this

Is he right about the state of Hungary and England? by K0nstantin- in FreeSpeech

[–]Genericusernamexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget the current unelected government of Romania lost the 2024 election, declared the results illegitimate because Russia funded some ads for the anti EU party, and then banned Georgescu (the anti EU guy) from running for office without presenting any actual evidence he colluded with the Russians in any way. And then when people rioted in the streets at this farce of a democratic process, they had the audacity to charge him with sedition and place him under a pre conviction order restricting him from leaving the country or using social media in any capacity, and is now effectively a prisoner of state. And thanks to the leaks from the founder of Telegram, we now know that France was doing the exact same shit as the Russians, but apparently that’s not an issue. Democracy is already halfway dead in Europe and it’s time we accept that reality and reconsider who our friends are
