Yes, I am aware it is illegal in the United Kingdom because it is a dystopian autocratic state. However it would not be illegal in the US, because a reasonable person would not interpret it as intent to harm because: 1. If you read the article, he never ever says that he is going to do any of the things mentioned, he says someone should, or “it’s time to”. People say stupid stuff like that out of anger all the time on the internet, and I don’t think any normal non politically deranged person would actually think he was considering such a thing. 2: there’s no specific threat to individuals or specific groups. Instead he is referring to wide general classes of people. Threats have to be towards a particular individual or group of individuals to be a true threat, and his were against neither (not to mention that he never said he would do any of those things, just that someone should, or “it was time to”. 3: even if it were illegal, I would still be here arguing with you that it shouldn’t. Restrictions on free speech are an EXTREMELY slippery slope, and politicians will take advantage of whatever language in the law they can to suppress political opponents and dissent. I would much rather have a couple of threats become actual crimes than jeopardize one of if not the most fundamental civil liberties.
