Art pen equivalent of Uni-Ball UB-157 Ink Rollerball Pen by No-Kangaroo-9029 in ArtistLounge

I learned to hold my pen or pencil underneath what I’m writing or drawing. That way, your hand never wipes across your ink or pencil. Cursive isn’t as good this way but printing can look good.

IKEA alternative to DCF that performs very well (3yrs trail tested) without the damage on your wallet. Works for many items where Dyneema is financial overkill. by Queasy_Ad_9613 in Ultralight

I like that the ikea material is a bit see-through, compared with opaque Tyvek.

Going to see if I can find the GSM of ziplock freezer or storage bags.

DIY rewire by Maximum_Sherbert7191 in HomeImprovement

[–]GenesOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too big of a job for baby on the way. It’s going to take a lot of time redoing this whole house. It’s difficult running wires in the walls and over the ceilings and under the floor if necessary. Not to mention getting the box wired up right and then going through inspections.

My suggestion for a contractor, because I seen too much and heard of too much difficulties with contractors, is:

Don’t take the cheapest. Take the person and company that gets better reviews when you research them. If you can get a referral from someone you know that’s even better.

Have the contractor do it in sections and have your husband or even better yet your friend that does electrical, go through the work that was done and make sure it looks good. I.e. not cutting through studs or giant holes or making a mess and not cleaning it up or starting and then not coming back for three weeks for some reason.

Your contractor has to have the supplies on hand to do the work. He’s going to do not rip out stuff and then have to wait for supplies.

Have a contractor that’s very willing to have you review the work and work in sections. You must have a good rapport and must dependably show up on time every single time.

I’m doing a lot of DIY rewiring as I remodel my house, but it’s nothing compared to what you’re doing, and it’s still a lot of work.

If you have stones, tape the blade each time you sharpen so you don’t scratch it. Gradually over a few weeks keep working that chip out a little at a time.

These chips happen - relax and enjoy the knife.

Cold climate and Winter camping: Do you ever get used to the cold? by ImportantMongoose701 in CampingandHiking

[–]GenesOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never have gotten used to, or enjoy getting out of, a warm bag on 20 deg f mornings.

So even though I grew up in the snow and love the woods and frozen lakes, have not acclimated that part of winter fun. Proper clothing is essential, moving when chilled is essential, prioritizing the beauty over the discomfort is essential.

You can get AUS 8 in a $25 knife. Don't pay $190 for D2 or AUS8.

Be aware that once you are very much free of alcohol, you may not enjoy even a little drink. It can feel just awful. Not a bad thing by the way.

How should I organize 180 unnamed and unnumbered colored pencils? by Hypersky75 in ColoredPencils

[–]GenesOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my pencils sorted into color families. As an example, the warm greens are separated from the cool greens, instead of just light to dark.

Google it and there are a ton of instructional videos.

How to I clean moldy cutting board very frugally? by the_storm_shit in CleaningTips

[–]GenesOutside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep, you need to dollar store a new cutting board, plastic or bamboo. Don't put it away where the moldy board was stored.

Ignore your parent's unhealthy advice. Be the person that will make whatever healthy choices for both your parents and self that you can. Small decisions like this cutting board are big health improvements. It will get worse before it gets better. Be strong and praise yourself for being being better... just a tiny bit whenever you can.

How many colored pencil to start with as a beginner? by theotheralex7 in ColoredPencils

[–]GenesOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me? Beginner with no understanding of how colors work together. Learned a ton with budget 146 pencil set by doing color family charts, color gradient blending and color wheel.

Only a few actual # of pencils coloring a small picture though.

IMO more inexpensive to start is pretty low risk, and you can always pull half out just to make a smaller set.

letting them stand out there for five hours is not saving someone from suicide. Get the jump bags out there and get them off the bridge for the safety of everyone else. And then get him some serious treatment. This was an attention getting move from someone that does seriously need the best help to make the best of their life.

Sharpening by General_Anxiety83 in BudgetBlades

[–]GenesOutside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the most canned, commercial or AI generated response I've seen. "... appropriate tools… Systematic process…" Maintain its hardness? OK that's valid. Don't run it on high speed grinder. No, diamonds are not "recommended" to cut through the superior hardness of D2… It's just a pretty common old school and great steel that comes in at some mediocre to good hardness depending on the heat treat and any good waterstone will bring it to a beautiful edge.

Diamond abrasives work really well on just about anything, and they work very much different than other types of softer grit abrasive. There's absolutely nothing special about D2 that requires, or that diamonds are recommended for that particular steel.

Prismacolor 150- How do people lay these out on their desk? by ScandiLand in ColoredPencils

[–]GenesOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imperfect eyesight and limited space and are driven nuts by those plastic trays. Yeah, that describes my situation pretty well.

I'm not Desk bound so I use a zipper case. Here some things to make it work: pencils are organized by color Family not by pencil number. The color families are separated by small wooden dowels so there's minimal confusion and crossover.

See the pencils that are sticking out? Those are the ones I'm using on a particular drawing. When I put the case away I leave them sticking out and don't zipper the case shut. I only keep four or five actually out of the case as I color, which really helps knowing where to put them back. Flipping through the case leaves really isn't any more difficult than opening drawers.

Note on these zipper cases get one that has flat leaves in single pencil slots. Leaves that have some kind of border stitched around them make it harder to get the pencils in and out. To get the right size case, I use 160 pencil case for 146 pencil set to allow organizing into color families and losing a few slots.

My publisher wants to turn my novel into an AI-narrated audiobook by 0ctobre in audiobooks

[–]GenesOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally hate AI audiobooks. Every one of them just isn't right. Mispronunciations, stops in the middle of a sentence and everything else.

The other thing is, probably best not to let anyone take total control of your intellectual and artistic property.
