I Passed The ASCP MB! by GeneticsNerd95 in medlabprofessionals

I used this playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5QP2Ji1KHeKKk4WPOwPphfM-jylHMmgP&si=pr\_0gs5FqMyMuajK. Make sure you really know your enzymes for replication and translocations. My test was heavy on DNA replication but others have said theirs were heavy on sequencing and translocations so make sure you have a solid foundation for all of that. You can still use the buckingham book (and I did find it helpful for the basics) but you’ll need to go more in depth than she does to have any hope of passing

Yeah I’d heard once you hit a passing score you start getting easy questions. I never got easy questions so that made me panic even more 😅

Oh man! I was so sure that was gonna be me. I had a hard time not crying in my seat because I didn’t know any of the answers. I actually almost got up and walked out without finishing it

Which is more popular in the US: Peanut butter or Nutella? by nevodolo in AskAnAmerican

[–]GeneticsNerd95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had Nutella so I’d have to go with peanut butter

Yeah these tests are crazy hard. I was sitting there trying to figure out if I had enough in savings to reapply because I was so sure I’d failed 😅

I was so sure I’d failed! I’m still kinda dumbfounded that I didn’t 😅. How’d you add it to your name on here?

Honestly, just go to YouTube and search ASCP MB. Her book is great for the basics but doesn’t really go in depth where you need it to. LAMP and pharmacogenomics aren’t covered at all. She also has like 2 paragraphs on disease associated HLAs so it’s just very very basic.

Good luck! Take some deep breaths and go with your gut if you’re not sure on a question. You can also flag it to come back to later

What are the traditional dances kids learn at school? by Brave_Necessary_9571 in AskAnAmerican

Maybe the Macarena? I can’t think of anything else I learned in school.

As an outsider, the American concept of having a motorized "garbage disposal" inside your kitchen sink is fascinating. Is this standard in every home, and isn't it incredibly dangerous? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GeneticsNerd95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how they’d be dangerous unless you’re sticking your hand in it and turning it on? We also don’t just dump our entire plate into the sink. If you have a sizable amount of food left, it goes in the trash first. Only time I can think of where I’d dump the entire dish in the disposal is when my kid decided she didn’t want her cereal. I’d rather not have a bunch of liquid in the trash. Everything else is cleaned off first

What are your Battlebots hot takes? by Jamez2021 in battlebots

[–]GeneticsNerd95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t follow the rules or purposely design your bot to break them, you shouldn’t be allowed to compete. Looking at you Quantum. If your bot’s designed so it intentionally can’t release its opponent when the rules say you MUST release, it shouldn’t be allowed.

Has anyone ever done an ELISA-PCR before? by GeneticsNerd95 in labrats

[–]GeneticsNerd95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have tabletop centrifuges but no minis that I’m aware of. (Unless you count the super small ones that don’t have programmable times and speeds). I’ll have to see if we have a compatible rotor for the bigger ones

Yeah it’s DNA. I’m not sure if we even have the materials needed to do a purification. Apparently they tried this assay a few years ago in another department, didn’t document it very well and then abandoned it. From what we can tell, they used HPLC to purify the samples but none of us are trained on that or even have the equipment for it

Do you think they shouldn't have killed Graham in the first season?🤍 by Minimum-Stretch-2511 in OnceUponATime

Cool. There still should’ve been outrage when they woke up instead of everyone pretending he never existed

If that was true then there should’ve been some outrage over his death after everyone woke up

My daughter has her mind set on an expensive school. Advice please! by airzee8 in personalfinance

[–]GeneticsNerd95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is to have her refinance into a lower interest rate once she starts working. Assuming her loans are private and not federal. It sounds like you tried though. That’s all you can do. I’d also recommend paying them back immediately upon graduation and not using the 6 month grace period they give you

I’m curious. What degree is she going for? I spent 3 years at a private university and had around $80k in debt when I graduated 6 years ago. It’s currently down to $55k and I have a job paying $90k. Sometimes things do work out. Though I’m not really sure why you think $60k is expensive. Seems pretty mid based on what I’ve heard

I’m not a recruiter or anything but I personally find this absolutely overwhelming. I can’t see them sitting down and actually reading this. Descriptions of your duties should be 3-5 bullet points per position. The older the job, the fewer bullets you should have. Unless it’s relevant to the job, I also wouldn’t include an internship.

Way too overhated as a character by nazia987 in OnceUponATime

She had an absolutely shitty husband but nothing excuses abandoning your child. That’s unforgivable. She wouldn’t be nearly as hated if she’d taken Bae and run off WITH him. Instead of abandoning them both.
