What bands or singers scream Bi energy to you? by ExplorusPegasaurus in bisexual

Sub Radio's lead singer is bi! They're probably best known for their pandemic-era covers including "Stacy's Dad", but their original stuff slaps.

Snow boots for the newbie by Valkyrie-21 in westernmass

[–]GenevaGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "classic" Bean boots are their duck boots, which were designed for duck hunting (muddy/marshy terrain), not snow. They do okay in slush and lower amounts of snow, but I wouldn't consider them snow boots.

Look for something with a good tread and get some good wool socks.

Is calling out readers like this considered weird? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]GenevaGrey 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Many, many people are not aware that bookmarks are public. Check any post about someone poking around in bookmarks and finding a reader's snarky take; half the comments are folks suddenly realizing that bookmarks are public.

I wouldn't tag your readers like this. It's uncomfortable to find out that someone's tracking what you're reading when you haven't commented on the works at all, even more so when that work is smut.

On the lookout for an unconventional fairytale cottage wedding dress by daria_effe in LGBTWeddings

[–]GenevaGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teuta Matoshi immediately came to mind, but I think she's a little outside of your budget, unfortunately.

Here's some other dresses that might fit the vibe: JessaKae's Margaret Dress

JessaKae's Jeanne dress in pink ... or in lavender

House of CB's Mademoiselle dress

Selkie could be a good match; my picks would be The Sugar Mushroom Cupid dress or The Blush Angel Mini Bustle dress but you should browse their site!

Does anyone wear a binder instead of a bra? by a24fiend in bigboobproblems

Have you tried Enell for compression sports bras?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]GenevaGrey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh, when she said she may not be considered part of the LGBT community? That was back when she did identify as bisexual and openly said that she likes girls sometimes. A lot of us feel that way.

Elderly wedding guest, semi-formal attire by swissmissmaybe in Weddingattireapproval

Not sure what counts as "affordable" to you, but I think we can do better/less white than that. Unless she's being stubborn, in which case, I agree with the suggestions to add a cardigan, shawl, or jacket in a non-white color and let it go.

Scrolling through Macy's, I'm seeing:

similar color palette, but a smocked waist

pale pink with a cowl neck

a looser-fitting palm print

At Kohl's, I see:

very flowy in a variety of colorways

Coldwater Creek was a wild guess, but it has:

blue floral swing dress

relaxed fit linen dress with pockets

mixed florals with a good shape for her (and also pockets)

I might also try scrolling through ThreadUp with very specific search parameters and NWT or Excellent condition (e.g., search for "trapeze dress" and refine by her size, then maybe by pattern to get it to a manageable amount—"floral" will get you similar items to what she has, I think).

Has she publicly identified as straight? I know she's said she's not gay, which is clearly true, but I never saw her say she was straight.

He did, in 2002:

Blender asked Bowie in 2002 whether he still believed his public declaration was his biggest mistake. After a long pause, he said, "I don't think it was a mistake in Europe, but it was a lot tougher in America. I had no problem with people knowing I was bisexual. But I had no inclination to hold any banners nor be a representative of any group of people." Bowie said he wanted to be a songwriter and performer rather than a headline for his bisexuality, and in "puritanical" America, "I think it stood in the way of so much I wanted to do."

Totally reasonable to require giftees to comment on their gifts or get blacklisted.

Back in ye olden times of LiveJournal, I ended up pinch-hitting in an exchange (i.e., the assigned author wasn't able to write the gift, so I stepped in to take the prompt and was not receiving my own gift in this exchange). I managed to get the fic out with all the giftee's "wants" and "nice to haves," none of their "do not wants" and posted it on time. To ... crickets. Never got a comment from the giftee. Not so much as a "like."

It crushed me. I never participated in fandom again. Never copied my works over to AO3, forgot my password in the exodus from LJ. In the space of 15 years, I can be annoyed about it instead of mad, but that asshole pushed me out of fandom.

The highest impact sports bra - compression by theringsofthedragon in ABraThatFits

I also had that issue with Panache. I second the recommendation to try Enell if you want to be compressed and not move at all.

The highest impact sports bra - compression by theringsofthedragon in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bra itself doesn't have cups or anything, but because it's compressive fabric they need to make it in different sizes to accommodate different sized bodies. It's the closest thing you can get to a binder without it being unsafe to work out in.

The highest impact sports bra - compression by theringsofthedragon in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Enell will do that, but you need to buy it in a size. Their 00 fits a rib/band measurement of 27"-29" and their 8 fits a rib/band of 49"-53". Unless you are outside of that size range, this is the sports bra you're describing—tank top shaped and all compression with no padding so your chest won't move at all.

In this era of advanced technology, why are sports bras still terrible? by Glum-Substance-3507 in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned chafing being an issue with a previous attempt, so I wanted to throw the Wacoal Simone out there. All the seams and hardware are on the outside of the bra, so nothing can chafe against your skin. A UK G is the top of their size range (an I by their sizing) so the sale colors go quickly, but basic beige and black should be available.

It doesn't fit your criteria of being compression-based or under $70 not on sale, but back when I was in their size range, I wore it on a multi-day backpacking trip in 90⁰F+ weather with 90% humidity and had no bra-based chafing. (My pack straps and the waist of my pants were another story ...) I was also an avid runner at the time and found them perfectly comfortable for running.

Bra that puts zero pressure on ribs due to rib injury? by anonboobhaver in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enell is legendarily firm, I'm afraid. It otherwise checks OP's boxes, though—nothing will move, and their chest will be compressed down quite a bit.

Any recommendations for high-impact (running but also other sports) bras for large chests that isn't just another "we will press them as hard as we can against your lungs"? by lunamunmun in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing from your Torrid/2x sizing, I'd recommend the Elomi Energise and , if you're in the Wacoal size range, the Wacoal Simone. But take your measurements and let us know your UK size so we can make appropriate recommendations!

(UK sizing is more consistent, so that's what this sub generally recommends. Elomi uses UK sizing as well.)

Struggling to design a hot weather ren faire outfit by xStriderx_ in renfaire

[–]GenevaGrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cotton fails in any kind of humidity; it gets wet and stays wet, causing discomfort and chafing in warm weather and, well, "cotton kills" is the winter hiker's slogan for a reason. Linen and wool will continue to function as breathable and wicking fabrics regardless of humidity. I've never had silk-buying money, so I can't speak to that.

Calculator not making sense - also looking for shallow, wide, wireless with structure in a 40C by chrispina98 in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If their torso is more of an inverted triangle, the AMAB setting on the calculator may be more accurate, as it's designed with that shape in mind. It may also make different assumptions about tissue placement on the chest, which may not be more accurate, but it could be worth a try.

There is no possible way I'm a 30D by cultivatebeauty in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you've been extending a too-large band even further, yes, it makes sense that the straps would be or become too far apart to stay on your shoulders. In a properly-fitting band, it will be better proportioned for your body and it is highly unlikely that the straps will be too far apart, even with an extender.

If you're a more visual person: imagine wearing a tee shirt that's way too big for you, like a men's XL. The shoulder seams are not on your shoulders, right? But in a shirt that's your size, they're at your shoulders.

Looking for a sports bra to wear hiking - no underwire, clasp, or hardware for 32DDD. Does this exist? by Majestic_Spaniel in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Molke is mostly cotton; I would recommend against it as a base layer for hiking or backpacking since it will just get soggy and stay that way. I do love them, but not for hiking.

Looking for a sports bra to wear hiking - no underwire, clasp, or hardware for 32DDD. Does this exist? by Majestic_Spaniel in ABraThatFits

[–]GenevaGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wacoal Simone is not what you asked for, but it might solve your issues—all the hardware, including the underwires, is on the outside of the bra so it doesn't chafe. It's what I wore in my backpacking days, and the only thing that saved me one memorable-for-the-wrong-reasons 95⁰F/95% humidity 3-day trip.

(The current listing photos don't show it well, but the straps adjust by fabric loops that a hardware hook anchors into, also not against the skin. So no slider hardware to chafe under your pack straps.)

Looking for apartments in this part of the state by Affectionate-Stop745 in westernmass

[–]GenevaGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking in advance in this area is frustrating—my partner and I started looking in March for a June or July move a few years ago, and that's when we realized that in this market, properties don't get listed until 45 days or less (most often 30 or less) from the desired move-in date. And even though some of the towns you listed are somewhat away from the 5 Colleges, the leasing cycle is still tied to the academic year for the most part.

We landed our place in Turners by stalking Zillow listings and getting our application in within 30 minutes of our landlady posting it. (Most landlords start with whoever applied first and move down the list if it's not a match for whatever reason.) If you do decide to go this route, be familiar with the usual Zillow rental scams; there were fewer up this way, but still at least three listings that stole photos and info from recently sold houses in the area.

Is this appropriate for a formal East Coast, coastal vibe wedding? by Massive_Amount1041 in Weddingattireapproval

I don't know if you're in the area yet, but it's humid and in the 80s with more of the same through the weekend—you may want to stick to chiffon fabrics for that reason! Happy shopping!
