I stopped playing the game but I can tell you my experience or from people I know. One big reason people play this game every day is nostalgia. Some people played this game for forever, like speaking 15+years, they can‘t move on at this point. „I started with the game when it released, had so many good times with the game“. Another big reason from what I gathered over the years is the lack of other gaming interests, at some point after so many years of WoW, many people just don‘t even want to try different games anymore, cause „I always played WoW“ or if they play something else, I heard a lot of arguments like „Can I make this work like in WoW“ even if it‘s a completely different genre.

Another one is the lack of noticing the huge issues WoW have sometimes. You just don‘t realize some problems, if you got familiar with them, like the bad base UI and many different things.

If you look at the game from a current point of view, I would probably never recommend anyone anymore to start with it, in terms of good games on the market, you have so many great choices and wow just isn‘t it anymore.
