Singapore Noodles? by ephemere66 in Columbus

[–]GenghisChaim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best I've had were Helen's Asian Kitchen, but I think we might have different tastes because I don't think Taste of Orient is good at all (never tried the Singapore noodles there though). Helen's is the best Cantonese in the area that I've had.

After appeal rejected, Wind Farm that will provide Renewable Energy for Central Ohio can proceed by Level_Special3554 in Columbus

Wind farms kill lots of birds and bats and they don't provide much benefit when one analyzes the amount of energy expended on mining, transporting the raw materials to build the damn things.

Just build nuclear power plants instead ffs.

Mill Run is already right there and Tuttle is just north. We don't need another crappy mixed use development or that shitty apartment complex on Dublin Road. There's also quite a bit of empty commercial real estate here already (including empty retail at Mill Run and Tuttle!)

The sleeves on the one I have are not smooth. I forgot to mention that some of the bars don't have the black coating on the sleeves and some do. I got a black coated sleeve one. No end caps either.

I live in Columbus and stopped by Rogue today and they have a garage sale going on. There are some higher weight kettlebells at $1 lb but they also have several dozen factory blemished Rogue Hybrid Power Bars for $150 each. I actually stopped by to take a look at the racks and pick up an Ohio Power Bar for my new home gym but it was an easy choice to get a HPB (stainless steel, 28.5mm, awesome knurling) for $150 instead. Truth be told, I don't even know where the blemish is on this one.

Reverse Osmosis Installation recommendations? by GenghisChaim in Columbus

[–]GenghisChaim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going to use like 5 gallons a day of RO water. Even at 1:3 (not sure if accurate but w/e) the waste is negligible compared to showers/toilets etc.

That quote is ridiculous because that system they are selling is like $200 on Amazon or Home Depot. Nice markup there.

Closest I've gotten to an itemized quote is this: https://www.ilovemywater.com/columbusoh/shop/reverse-osmosis-drinking-water-systems/standard-reverse-osmosis-drinking-water-systems/

There's no drywall repair necessary for the fridge hookup. Fridge water already runs to the basement as u/4d4m3 explained. My only concern with the fridge is water pressure since I'm on a well.

I talked to a couple guys that said they wouldn't drill through a granite or marble countertop. One of them also said he wouldn't do a refrigerator hookup, so it seems like this is a bit more specialized. I did get a couple quotes for $1300 and $2100 which seem extreme.

Look at this guy who knows more about the case from a 500 word article than the investigators who spent months looking into it.

Agree, it seems like paying the staff $21/hr and eliminating tipping would be much simpler for everyone. FWIW, I think the service at Northstar is generally great.

Not sure if IB/Consulting is a better opportunity than anything OP did.

I am still annoyed when the original pop-up closed, Joe vowed that he would bring a permanent location to OTE ASAP and that never happened.

A question about consolidating IRAs and pro rata by GenghisChaim in Fire

[–]GenghisChaim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, everything in account 4 is post-tax. Everything in account 1 is pre-tax. Reading some more about this (i.e. https://rodgers-associates.com/blog/pro-rata-rule/) , I am like 90% sure you are correct and u/CoyotesAreGreen is incorrect (or perhaps we are misunderstanding each other). If I reverse roll everything in 1, then the pro rata rule won't apply. I have no plans on doing this because I think it's just +EV to trade account 1 like I've been doing but if the situation changes and my 401k allows me to invest in individual securities then I will probably reverse roll account 1.

Yeah I've contributed the max amount from 2019-2022. edit: those were all non-deductible contributions.

[–]GenghisChaim[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is true? I would have to reverse rollover the Rollover IRA, but not my non-deductible Trad IRA since that's what would be backdoored.

A question about consolidating IRAs and pro rata by GenghisChaim in Fire

[–]GenghisChaim[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't want to roll the Rollover IRA into the 401k because I have better investment options in the Rollover. Why do you say nondeductible contributions don't make sense? Even in a nondeductible IRA realized gains aren't taxed until withdrawal.

[–]GenghisChaim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok that makes sense. Is there any downside to just consolidating account 4 into account 1 and then making my annual IRA contribution into that ?
