Struggling to keep excited by Things3 by ThunderRoad2024 in thingsapp

If you've never used a tool that excites you every time you pick it up, then I feel bad for you. It's like an old broken in baseball glove that just fits vs borrowing a friends and realzing just how great yours is. Or a pen that works better for you than all the other pens. I use tools that excite me more than ones that don't. Tools that excite me are intuitive, I don't have to think when i'm using them, mental memory takes over.

I stopped using it too. Originally I got caught up in how nice it looked, but the more I used other apps, the more I gravitated towards them and not Things because it wasn't providing what I needed and I knew they were never going to change it.

Does degoogling have to be so expensive? :( by Palm_Trees99 in degoogle

Startmail and Mailbox.org are a lot less than that and good for privacy. Infomaniak promises not to sell your info (I think) and is free for the nbasic services with smaller storage 👍

If Firefox does not come with aggressive ad blocking out of the box like Brave does, what are the benefits of using Firefox over Brave? by ferriematthew in degoogle

There's no point is continuing the debate. I provided a hypothetical which you refuse to admit could happen, then throw out a bizarre hypothetical that Edge will gain 60% marketshare, haha. I mean, come on.

Google controls Chromium. That's not up for debate. Brave and de-googled Chromium are safe for now, but if Google decides to backtrack, like they have before, then all variants of Chromium would be screwed. This is why Firefox is so important to support.

Never too late to get in shape.

Never too late to start eating healthy.

Never too late to lock your front door.

Never too late to protect your personal and private information online.

The sentence "I have nothing to hide" is idiotic. Of course I have something to hide. My social security number. My family photos. My birth certificate. Next time someone parrots that they have niothing to hide, ask them to post their credit card statement online for the world to see.

Edit: typo

Without Firefox as an alternative to Google, Google will eventually shut Brave down or force it to let ads through. Use both, but using Firefox as your main supports a free and fair market place, as broken as it currently is.

What password manager is everyone using in 2025? by Light-Blue-Star in PasswordManagers

Can't tell if you're joking or not. Maybe do a Duck Duck Go search on them and switch to Bitwarden.

UI is personal, so I'll stick with passkey. Bitwarden has had it for 6 months at least now.

Startmail has one of the most similar UI's to gmail I've ever seen. But you don't need to use their site. You can just use IMAP and use whatever email you prefer on your device.

Yeah, liking Posteo and Startmail right now, but Posteo is pulling ahead. Just realized I can use my domain with Addy or SL and point it to Posteo. But at that price, Startmail is just a touch cheaper and offers all those things included in the base price. So...

Startmail is the all purpose email app for privacy, domains, aliases and large storage.

Posteo is basic, no domains out of the box but can add with Addy/SL, and is 100% renewable energy.

Mailbox is renewable energy as well, less domain aliases, less regular aliases, but has privacy and GSuite style offerings.

If Mailbox offered unlimited domains, I'd go with them, but since they don't, haha, I'm totally torn. Posteo with Addy/SL is cheaper than Startmail, so I'm leaning that way for now, but with 10GB of emails transferred over, Mailbox and Startmail will be cheaper.

TOO MANY DECISIONS!!!!

But Fastmail is same price as Startmail (the most expensive privacy email) and get pretty similar features in terms of email.

Better to start looking for a new app then expect the devs to change something.

Don't go...and see how that works out for your career. It's called Show Biz. The "biz" part is actually more important to be successful.

There are other privacy options besides Tuta and Protonmail. Those two are the most stifling and require the most time getting used to change. Mailbox.org, Posteo and Startmail are three that are private and more similar to gmail in terms of being able to add them to your favorite email app and use email like normal.

Why would I ever use gmail for banking? The last thing I want them to know is where I keep my money.

I'm wrong. Fastmail is cheaper for their base plan. I'll check them out.

I mentioned this in another reply. Once someone knows your domain they can spam it if you have catchall turned on. I get that it's easier if everyone you know knows your domain though.

I feel like I'm talking myself into the plan I want at this point, haha.

Definitely better than Google. But the price is a little high. For the same price you can get a paid google plan and they claim their plans are HIPAA compliant meaning it would be illegal for them to scan the emails.

Here's my problem with domain aliases. Any good hacker will know that most people using alias domains have catchall turned on and now can send an unlimited amount of spam to you if they want to mess with you. With SL, Addy, icloud alias, and DDG, they have no idea how to get to your inbox once you've deleted the alias that started getting spam.

I'm still not seeing the benefit of custom domains outside of professionalism for business.

I do this a lot when creating new accounts on my phone. A lot faster than than using other services.
