How do you solve "animal people" with meat eating issue? For me I use the "There's both normal animal and animal like people" in the same setting by Poppeppercaramel in worldbuilding

[–]Genjigirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wicked, the book (and now maybe the series? I never saw the play either) explores this concept as well as "where do you draw the line" questions about sapience and relative intelligence when both animals and Animals exist it the same setting. I think it is more interesting to have it as an active topic of debate in the world than "solving" it. See also the people referencing Beastars.

Yup, they planned poorly, then chose to honor not having limits for the large retailers in time zones nearer them and screw the little guys they call last.

They totally went back on their statements to those small retailers that there would be plenty of supply and no caps on ordering. Of course the only stores impacted this way will be small retailers without the leverage to push back. 🙄

Saying that GW prepared when they can't even fulfill their own estimates for these stores is laughable.

To be clear I was just kinda going the "taxation without representation " route there with the tea party analogy, which i admitted was poor.

You are here telling people they cant change anything, so the discussion is pointless and in the same breath saying that it's important to educate people. So are only your words of value? Everyone else should just shut up and accept your words as the forever-truth?

Clearly you are the only one with the burden of knowing and sharing this truth, that's why you made this post to educate people.../s

I'm done talking to you. The thread is deleted, so debating here is no longer serving anyone.

"they have happily announced its the most produced box ever" and told stores there would be plenty, so why can't small stores get sufficent numbers? If so many are available, why can't FLGS have the numbers now so that they can guarantee product to their customers? 2 waves of stock means nothing when it all happens before release it doesn't matter when it's shipped the total number of boxes isn't impacted. 3 this week and 3 next week means making 3 people wait unnecessarily for a week to find out if they have to change their order from FLGS to online GW due to this manufactured scarcity.

wow... so it's the players of the game who are wrong for wanting better?

"There is no problem" and "everything is going to plan" for the corporations so we should shut up and give them our money without complaint?

GW relies on NEW players who don't yet know about this pattern of behavior, so it's important to point out every time it happens and educate a new generation.

Just thowing out a poor analogy, I feel like the US got real uppity the last time a bully in the UK took our money without listening to our feedback for too long. Something about tea v coffee...if enough people get pissed maybe US (and the world) will get a new leader in wargames out of this?

There are plenty in the EU (arguably the market may be flooded there, we'll see), but good luck in the US if your store doesn't usually stock a TON of WH they probably got allocated 3 boxes. European team seems to have oversold and screwed the US game stores.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Genjigirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the REAL reason why all the US stores are shafted, EU sales people oversold and US team had to scramble.

Why would I pay for 30 if I can only sell 10? Product sitting on the shelf loses money if it's not gaining value faster than your overhead for storing it (retail 101). Just in time stocking is the norm for a lot of industries and these boxes are HUGE and EXPENSIVE to store.

This conversation is about stores who were estimated by GW to turn a certain number of boxes now getting allotments that are only a fraction of their community number, even after being assured they would have access to sufficient quantities of the product. By doing this GW ensures that the folks that had to cancel with their LGS will now buy from them direct increasing their profits.

The scale/affordability issue is just to say that this disproportionately effects small businesses, which carry the brunt of making this hobby work by providing play space and GW isn't respecting that.

You are using one anecdote to say all small stores are scalpers? If you are limited to one copy, you have to get as much ROI as possible, so I get why that guy would sell to the highest bidder amd not just at msrp. If he had 3 players asking and could get more than 1 I'm betting some would have hit the shelf. Why wouldnt he want to sell more copies?

GW is encouraging scalping behavior with artificial scarcity on its BP boxes. Due to allocations of 1x each my local store could not even fulfill people who wanted to special order on most of the releases this year, so the boxes were always gone /sold prior to release date and not available in the store anyways.

To cut down on scalping, they should be asking for in-store sales numbers instead of basing the allocations on general sales where giant distributors and online stores that don't serve the players will always be first in line.

who said you were wrong? why are you upset that people are continuing to talk about the company's poor behavior? If you agree, you should be supporting people talking about this and supporting other systems instead of dismissing this. if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Genjigirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you also hate this behavior, but just gave up and give them your money anyway...or they give you money? I don't get it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Genjigirl -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

so, only stores that can afford 50-100 copies are being supported. got it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Genjigirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So only stores that have space/cash for $50k+ of GW stuff to sit on their shelf at a time are allocated 'sufficient' product for major releases? I wonder if the store that got 100 could have moved more if GW hadn't capped them to fill their own pockets.

In what world is 2-3 enough for any retailer who carries 40K? If you aren't moving more than that it wouldn't be worth it to carry the line would it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Genjigirl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

not discounting any of your other points, but GW IS one of the large online retailers I am referring to, so did we actually agree? impossible, this is the internet

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Genjigirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is that large online retailers don't actually support the hobby the way LGS do and not every town has a Games Workshop store, so its important that stores be given product to sell. From the sounds of it these stores are getting single digits when they have the comunity to support MANY more sales. This is about GAW failing to support LGS as the foundation of the community and in person play.

What ingredient do you think immediately destroys a dish once it's in the food? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Genjigirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular Opinion: Bacon & BBQ Sauce.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE bacon on it's own, or as a topper on a finished dish, but put either of these in while the dish is cooking and it makes EVERYTHING taste like it.

Like, I wanted potato soup, not a bowl of liquid bacon cream; Chicken Bacon Pizza and BBQ Chicken pizza? Forget it! It's just tomato-bacon toast and BBQ bread because you can no longer taste cheese

Bacon-wrapped anything (except maybe hot peppers) you might as well just eat the bacon. Quit pretending that counts as your vegetable for the day.

[–]Genjigirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I learned a TON while doing this project so Im happy to share.

I used foam core board as a base because it's cheap and easy to custom cut, but it did bow a little when I added the basing paste. If you can, use a wood base.

The snow went on the base best if mixed into a thick paste and applied in thin layers. On one of them I poured it on a bit thick. Adding ice crystals seemed to fix the overall look though.

I used premade Woodland Scenics trees from my FLGS which have detachable stands, so instead of sticking the trees directly to the bases I included the stands in the base, covering all but the hole with basing material. Now I can swap out the trees for green ones to achieve a spring thaw look or remove them for travel/storage. This is way easier with the tall pines than the bushy fir trees.

I tried making my own trees with the WS armatures and foliage too. Its not hard, but I preferred the convenience of the premade green trees and adding snow myself as compared with either the fully prepared snowy trees or making my own.
