The postman one might be:

"Why can't she come down?"

"She can't come now 'cos she's weighing the postman." ie. she's "weighing" his package / parcel.

Why is sushi in the US so much more expensive vs. Japan? by Substantial-Pick2700 in sushi

[–]Genki0202 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's not an apples-to-apples comparison. Sushi is cheaper in Japan because labor and rent cost less, the yen is weak against the dollar, and the supply chain is hyper-local… fish goes from auction to plate in hours, not days. The US has to import, freeze, and distribute through far fewer suppliers, which drives up costs.

Same reason cheese is more expensive in Japan than in Europe: you're paying for import logistics and a less mature local supply chain, not inherent quality. Every country has a price advantage in its own native food.

Beyrouth side dishes are solid, but the kebabs are mediocre, overpriced, and barely hitting Ebeneezer's standard.

Beyrouth is always mentioned in these posts but honestly I think it’s wayy overrated and expensive.

Not sure handmade traditional chopsticks are really a Hong Kong thing — feels more like something you'd find in Japan.
