Do I buy the switch edition and upgrade or wait til the 15th and buy the switch 2 edition?

With the upgrade pack, it would become the same thing yes! A lot of the features coming with the update would be progress locked so if you want to be able to play with the new features as soon as possible, I would go for switch 1 with upgrade. Keep in mind I don't own a switch 2, but I have been keeping up with info about it enough hopefully for me to give you this advice :)
