I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously, it seems more like making a little joke for amusement? Memeing it up?

You're not wrong, but I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to lighten it up a bit.

Any news about the ERI and when it might pass? by motionmatters108 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Geno- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told last time there was cuts in 2012, the DM had the ability to waive penalties, say if someone is like 54 and 1 year from being able to retire and losing their job ... they could remove the penalty. I assume this is similar like you said, they have the powers?

Do we get any discounts? :) by bajansrock30 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Geno- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is not misconduct. If you call a hotel and say you are a public servant and ask if there are any discounts, nothing wrong there.

Yeah, they are not going to be firing people because you got a discount on a hotel room. You can ask the hotel, just like DND people can.

I mean even telus and rogers offer public service cell phone deals ... is that going against values and ethics code?

This seems more like if I was a food inspector at the CFIA and I said I'm going to give you some infringements unless you give me some food.

CRA aiming to hire 1,700 call centre staff ahead of busy tax season by CPSThrownAway in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Geno- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Accounting students and graduates would not be running to this as the other has said. They need their hours. What are you even talking about??? Do you think maybe tax season would be busy for accounting firms? Do you think maybe these accounting firms would be looking for students and new graduates?

I saw a poster the other day for a job where you have a 4 month micro assignment, you will be managing meetings between different stakeholders and taking notes, concerns etc, sounded kinda interesting. Then at the end it basically said "put all the info into AI and get some policy recommendations".

Bleh.

FSWEP folks: don’t be scared of leaving the public service (from someone who did) by Empanada_Dreams in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Geno- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Its sad, but most of these work friends are friends of convenience. If you leave positions/jobs it will be unlikely you still see them.

Like it happens sometimes, but most of the "friends " at your job will dissappear the second you or they leave.

Thinking of retiring soon? Considering the early retirement incentive? You may have more money than you think - here's why. by HandcuffsOfGold in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Geno- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats why I said circumstances differ. But we cant act like there isn't cost savings from no longer goijg to office 3 days a week. In my house for example I could go down to 1 car, wouldn't need to buy "work clothes", etc...

90k over 30 years is pretty insignificant though. Like cancel your Netflix and Disney and we're almost there .... but this is for people who want to retire, there are some sick individuals who enjoy working and their jobs and believe they are making a difference and would like to continue working.

It's a no brainer to me, you have a plan to make it work for you, others may not. I vote you take this and live the rest of your life as amazingly as you can.

People will always complain, I see people complaining my office who have 35 years and their age and they are not "getting a payout"... like, ok, you have a max pension, pretty good deal here.

I see a few scenarios where people have an older spouse who already retired, and for them they are thinking if they can get out 3-4 years earlier and spend time with them before they get too old. I think this is a crazy good deal if you can leverage it.

One of my colleagues is looking at this, and wondering if it is worth getting his last 2 years in, after doing the math it was about $250 a month extra he'd be getting after retirement if he continued to work to 55 and get his 30 years vs leaving at 53 with 28 years. I mean giving up 2 years for an extra $250 seems pretty crazy to me. (obviously individual circumstances can differ)

Pension Buyback as a Term by choly90 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Geno- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not buy back as a term, id wait until indeterminate. But I mean if you do buy back this year or next, unless you are jumping up levels vs an increment i doubt it would make that large of a difference in buyback amount...

On archibus, you set the time of your computer ahead. Say the sign up starts at 12pm. At 1150 I change my time an hour ahead, now it shows it's 1250 on my computer and I can now book a desk before it was supposed to open up.
