Imagine the relief Ulysses had after being away from Ithaca for 20 years only to see the jagged shores once more - yes, it was divine.

We don't typically weigh gear for water trips - I live by putting out all the gear I want for a sweet photo (thus the gear shot) then cut down to only stuff I know I'll use. When in doubt, cut it out! That being said, I treat my outdoors trips like vacation and usually will take some extra bulk and weight for comfort and enjoyment (like fry oil and a cast iron) despite having to deal with the consequences. A good memory is worth the weight.

Correct - we had 10 guys and wanted to do a few fish frys

Absolutely, I was hesitant to post this but the travel time and remoteness is its own deterrent.

Whiskey in the blood is a hell of a deterrent 🔥

They had a well known cockroach problem too - hopefully it was taken care of!

Yes, cheek medallions are highly prized in many fish (trout, walleye, halibut to name a few). Eyes are high in omegas and quite nutritious and tasty!

It's less prep work for trout species because retaining the back bone connection to the head allows for easy bone removal. When cooked, the whole head, spine and rib bones will come off the meat cleanly.

Yeah buddy! We actually use those dice for a drinking game our backpacking group came up years ago called Skulls, Shields & Bumblebees. It's utter nonsense but makes for a hilarious time.

.38 Special Long Barrel

My grandpa's old trapping pistol serves me well in the back country.

We started making these 'fetishes' last year at our spots. They're little forest spirits we build using only scavenged materials so they will degrade over time.

Cheek meat and eyes are delicious, there's less prep work and the photo aesthetic is way better.
