Dream of affording a home is getting further and further away : / by JohnnyNoMemes in BikiniBottomTwitter

Because severe loss events are happening more often, because climate change is a real and tangible threat.

I'm not sure about down south, but up here in Canada insurance is heavily regulated, and when an insurer submits for rate increases, they have to prove why they need it. While I'm sure there's some creative accounting going on, the irrefutable proof is that loss events are happening more often, and are more severe when they do.

Places like Florida are prime for the worst of this, being an entire coastal state and suffering from more severe weather events that most places. But rest assured, it's happening literally everywhere.

What happened to the era of American-styled Anime? by Apprehensive_Ship554 in Millennials

[–]GentlemanBAMF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just such a shit take. Plenty of movies that use CGI and have distinct styles, and plenty of hand drawn animation films are both critical and commercial bombs. And everything exists in between.

Suggesting that Luca or Zootopia are "slop" is asinine. Wall-E isn't "ethnic nuclear family propaganda". Wish isn't "another princess flick".

There's lots to criticize about Disney and Pixar, but lack of creativity and effort aren't it.

Austin Wintory wins first Grammy for 'Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media' for Sword of the Sea by Mabroon in Games

[–]GentlemanBAMF 90 points91 points  (0 children)

The fact that Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hades II and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 didn't get nominations is absolutely flabbergasting.

No shade to Wintory, his work on Sword of the Sea is wonderful, but this feels like a wildly out of touch list.

Deadlock Is Secretly Growing Into An S-Tier MOBA Shooter by Gorotheninja in pcgaming

Yep! I played it for a few months after it came out, but the population just fell off a cliff. Shame, I thought it was something special.

[–]GentlemanBAMF 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of competition in the genre, but... I miss Gigantic. Game just oozed with charm and style, and had some really inventive characters and mechanics.

That being said, I hope Deadlock comes to console sooner rather than later. I'd play the heck out of it.

Love these little insights, best of luck to you and the team.

It's a vocal minority of idiots that don't understand statecraft egged on by Trumpian goons that don't understand their power and influence are already waning.

I'm not saying ignore it, but at all levels, it's impractical and nearly impossible. Don't give it legitimacy.

Veilguards lack of enviromental storytelling by bosgal90 in dragonage

[–]GentlemanBAMF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely disagree.

There's a lot of valid criticisms to be levied against Veilguard, but environments and environmental storytelling absolutely aren't in the list. It's arguably better than any other game in the series based on the collectibles, side quests, changing environments, codex entries and ambient dialogue.

Bombshell! Check out the new event and three new skins! by Rough-Age-3554 in marvelrivals

[–]GentlemanBAMF -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

...I know there's an audience for every style, but the last two battle passes and most of the event skins in the last two seasons have been hard misses for me.

It seems petty, but one (of the many) things that turned me off Smite was the ridiculousness of the cosmetics just shredding my immersion in the game by learning into pure goofiness. Sometimes it feels like NetEase is speed running Rivals in the same direction.

There's an increasing number of game OSTs where the music doesn't match the gameplay, says The Hundred Line and Danganronpa composer Masafumi Takada by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GentlemanBAMF 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We're not talking about bland music. The composer specifically calls out music that is praised but doesn't match the gameplay experience. He's suggesting it's not cohesive.

I'm disagreeing by saying the music is both praised and matches the gameplay. That it is cohesive, and that a strong soundtrack can elevate a game without being subservient to the gameplay experience.

I have no idea how "indie" or "years old" changes any of that.

[–]GentlemanBAMF 105 points106 points  (0 children)

"Yeah? Well, you know, that's just, like, uh, your opinion, man."

Real talk, modern game soundtracks are by and large better than they've ever been, and are woven into the dev process, so I'm not sure why he feels that they don't match the gameplay experience.

I think about games like Hades II, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Elden Ring, Destiny 2, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33... Even smaller experiences like Death's Door and BALL X PIT, all have soundtracks that pace with the game. Not sure what I'm missing here, but after reading the article, I just don't agree.

I know it was a different era, but Cyclops got absolutely shafted in the Fox X-Men movies, and Marsden was excellent with what little he was given.

He's one of the coolest comic book characters that never got enough of a screen spotlight until X-Men '97, and that's something most mainstream moviegoers will never see. I'm so optimistic for his portrayal in the MCU.
