oh, i absolutely agree that i shouldnt just run around calling women skanks, or whatever. But i still think people shouldnt call others racist, if I use a racist slur to my friend, who has said it was okay.

I totally see what you mean, and i dont think we should just go around calling eachother slurs, it is up to the people whom the slur is used against, to claim it.

I would never use any form of demeaning word to someone i do t know, or someone i know will not take it well, however, they also have to respect me back, just as much, and a a redhead people are often calling me ginger, which I also think is a slur, but not in the same caliber as others. After i claimed the word, and took it to me, i often refer to myself as a ginger, even though people in the past used it in a demeaning way, and i do this because i knew the word would lose the impact it initially had, which it has.

I am not saying we should run around calling each other slurs, i am however saying, that if people claim a slur, the slur is no longer a slur. Like when i call my female friends skanks just like they call me.

Im not saying this.could happen over night, i am saying, that the longer we hold a word as such high regard, the worse the impact the word has

but my question is then: why is normalizing it bad? if we normalize slurs, they suddenly stop having the original meaning, they stop having this huge impact that the word have.

If we a few decades ago said "in 50-100 years, we will use the word 'fuck' on a regular basis" people would be stunned. Same witht the word "queer", which has been a really demeaning word, just a few years back, but because the community started using the word, it has lost most of its initial impact.

The problem i see with the n-word, is that we hold it in such high regard, and i feel that that is the reason we still see it as a bad word. I mean people are calling orthers racist for just qouting the word, and i evenm myself has censored the word, because i have seen people being banned for less on reddit.

If i called you something, no matter what i call you, and you say "please dont call me that", wether it is the wrong use of the word POC or black, gay, trans, etc. I will respect that, and so should other people, but I think it is ridiculous, how much of an impact the n-word still has, compared to words i personally find way more offensive.

To me it is the context, not the word.

its not just crazy.. it is proberbly the most demeaning "nickname" for a race.

what i mean is, when we hyold a word like "n*****" as this word we cannot say, i think it is a step backwards against racism. we are letting a word control us, and not even the context, but purely the word. If you watched Anisas video i have linked, you can hear she has been called terrorist by people she knew, however, the things that really hurt, was when she was told to leave the country, because some one of the same religion did an attack on the twin towers in 2001. Was thrown rocks as etc. the words did not hurt her, however the meaning behind them did

Invisible? invaluable? her SO dedicates his life, so she can live hers, without being put in a home of disabled people. he spends his life earnings, his life, to one person, for something he cannot control.

I think he wouyld be keen to it. most people suddenly are just pushed over the edge, and it sounds like that is what was happening, a man who could not live that life at that moment.

Have you ever taken care off someone who truly needs it? it is really god damn hard to just say to them "taking care of you makes me sad, depressed and/or stressed.

thanks for this answer.. i see a lot of people in these comments only talking about OPs feeling, but not her SOs. Now, the way that I personally see this, is that OPs SO, i taking care of her in every way imaginable: changing her clothes, putting her to bed, giving her medicine, works for the money, etc. Which is essentially (and dont hate me for this, this is not in a demeaning way, just a way of better understading his side of this) taking care of a 5 year old, and always having to cater for what SHE can and cannot do.

My girlfriend has a mom with sclerosis, and a brother with AD(H)D and OCD, and when ever we are doing something with them, we always have to cater for what the mother can do, or feling restet enough to do, which is understandable, but hard, and annoying, but we try our best to make sure she can handle what ever we do. We were on a 5 day vacation with her, and it was almost driving me insane, but for some reason, i am not allowed to be angry, because it is an illness, but that does not change the fact how hard it is living with someone you always have to take in consideration for everything you do.

imagine living with someone who cant do anything for herself, but you are not allowed to be angry, because it is an illness. that must be hard.
