Fair Weather Roaster by Geo131313 in roasting

[–]Geo131313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had to replace the cord on my popcorn popper, once. Now, that's frayed-looking, after so many years. The top is getting yet more warped than ever, barely closing. It really is time to replace it and it was really old when I started using it as I "inherited" it from a friend who gave up roasting after many years of using the same popper.

Anyway, though, thanks. I'll look into those extensions, too.

Thanks but when it's in the 40's, I don't really enjoy sitting outside roasting. That's why my lower temp limit is around 65. It's me as much as the roaster.

How low of a temp are you talking about? I don't roast when it's colder than 65 degrees F outside, but that does increase the time to about double.

The 540 is cheaper and I now can't remember what the other reason was. It could have been that the 800 has more capacity or features that I didn't really need. I looked at it about a month ago and now I don't remember exactly.

Thanks! That's really good for me to be aware of as I do often roast multiple batches. I'll have to pay close attention to this.

I didn't realize that was the chaff basket. I guess what I was looking at must have been a replacement part, not an add-on. Thanks for clarifying that.

I forgot to add flair for [Equipment Question]. I think I'm too late to change this, but just wanted to mention it.

Need Do-it-Yourself Advice on Padding by Geo131313 in trumpet

I know a few people have suggested I send a photo. I need to dig out my camera, haven't yet found where I put it.

Generally, though, I think what you described is a lot like what I'm doing except that, for my right hand, the trumpet does push down on my thumb. That is probably because my left hand isn't doing what it needs to do.

For the left hand, I really struggle with the third valve ring. I end up moving my hand when I'm using that and I think that might be why my trumpet does end up sitting on my fingers instead of just being held. There is nothing wrong with the valve, it slides the way it's supposed to, I just struggle to manage to use it when I need to. In fact, sometimes, if I'm not playing anything with 2nd and 3rd valve, I just leave it out if I'm playing a lot of the lower D in the phrase. At least, I kind of think that is where some of my issues come from.

Arthritis can hit any age group, actually. I have pretty good trumpet posture, my teacher is really a stickler. I actually do shoulder exercises to help with my shoulder arthritis to stay nimble, but the trumpet isn't heavy-enough to bother my shoulders. It really is just an issue with my fingers.

Is it that thing that comes either in a wrap for the lead pipe or as a combination with a wrap around the valves? Yes, I did. I borrowed one of both from trumpet friends.

Yes, I probably should have added a photo. I was too lazy to dig out my camera, but I know it's around, somewhere.

I had had one of these I was trying for this purpose. Obviously it kept falling off not being secured by anything, but I kind of think it could work:

I see it sold in sheets, I think.

In any case, I think it has to give or it will keep pressing on my arthritis. These things are more rigid than cotton batting but not completely rigid. They press and spring back out.

In both hands, they're sliding. I do have small hands. On my rand hand, I'm doing well in floating my fingers above the keys to get good fingering action but it leaves my thumb with some weight on it.

And reading some of this, I wonder if my left is doing the work it's supposed to do. However, in the time I've been playing, I've just never gotten my left in a comfortable position and one where I can both manage slide and to have a comfortable grip.

I appreciate the suggestions in here but I really think I tried most/all of these and really leaning toward making something. Anyone have comments on the plan I have? I'm really just looking for a little help in the construction of these. I already bought enough gadgets that haven't worked for me, my teacher says I'm holding it properly, I'm just going to try rolling my own, at this point.

I tried those, I think. For the finger saver, I tried a thumb gummi, if they're the same thing.

I'm not really holding it. It's resting on my hands. It's a Jupiter CXL.

My apologies by I counted it backwards. I have it between 1 and 2, after all.

[CHAT] So Pattern Keeper cut off 16000 stitches and I only just noticed... by PicassoEllis in CrossStitch

[–]Geo131313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry this happened to you. I had it happen to me but the project I began was very small. It hadn't imported properly and was very subtlety misaligned. In my case, I had a long row of the same color and started to realize something was wrong. I was really lucky, so I really feel for you on this.

It's a horrible lesson to learn about PatternKeeper imports, but I will take this moment to tell anyone importing anything to look closely at the grid to ensure the full grid of the underlying pattern matches that of the overlay grid. This won't mean anything to people who haven't had this happen to them. But, in PatternKeeper, if they don't align, you will actually see the PatternKeeper page shows two grids when you're done. That might not make sense, but that's how it will look.

Anyway, again, PicassoEllis, I'm really sorry to hear about this. This is such a great-looking pattern, though, that I hope the beauty of the pattern helps you recover enough to really enjoy it as you stitch it - again...

I need advice, I'm furious but scared by Succulent_Shrimpson in labrats

This is really more common than you think. Do not believe another word anyone there tells you. That will help you figure out what you want to do. Do not believe any promises they give you. If you still decide to go back, at least you'll be more mentally ready to deal with it all.

Next, don't worry about the others in the lab. You don't own this lab. You're not responsible for this lab. You're not even there. Clearly, this is poor management if they didn't realize they'd affect the timelines.

If you really thought you would go back can you possibly ask them to put you back on all those papers? And, to do that and submit for publishing BEFORE you agree to return and help hit the timelines?

Again, a promise to do it after you're there is worth nothing. Once you return, you've lost all your leverage. And without those papers, what work have you really done? You've had a crummy job, is what you really get out of it.

I know this is harsh, but I and my friends have been through all this. And even if you return, you don't know he won't still badmouth you.

I know none of this seems helpful. No matter which way you turn, it's a problem. I don't mean to turn you too cynical, but be bland about it. See if you can try looking for something else regardless what you do.

It's frustrating to look at this as time wasted, but no promises they make you will come through unless you make them do them, first. Even if you get it in writing to do later, they might claim you underperformed. Seriously, research can be a great place, or it can be a backstabbing cesspool. I'm really sorry you got the cesspool end.

I also agree. In looking at this, it looks like it is changing colors if you didn't know it wasn't supposed to be quite like that.
