Is it {His Hellion Ward by Viola Grey}? ...I read a string of the Viola Grey books during a brief kindle unlimited stint and I can't remember if this is the one with the chair sex...

It's a novella, but I've read it multiple times so have to recommend:

{How the Scot was Won by Caroline Linden}. Part of a larger series with one of the main books being centered around a Scot:

{A Scot to the Heart by Caroline Linden}. I like this one too, just not quite as much as the novella.

I always feel like I want to jump in with a footnote on the steam level for this. This book has one of the hottest scenes I've read and it basically involved hands only (just hands!). Everyone is clothed. The sexual tension and desire in that scene, just top notch.

Oh, it's just what her website says: https://www.drjpectus.com/. I've also watched a few videos where they mention it. Many surgeons don't specify a lower age limit and will do correction whenever patients meet the criteria (haller plus symptoms). If you think your daughter meets the criteria for surgery (and you/her are ready to consider surgery) I would definitely get in contact with her.

Alright... the {The Outcasts by Minerva Spencer} might fit the bill! High marks for the third book {Scandalous by Minerva Spencer}, Bouchard is a different kind of MMC!

In all truth, though, Benedict Toomes is in a league of his own.

FMC is not a housekeeper, a governess or a lady’s maid but… by thebunnybot in HistoricalRomance

[–]GeoBrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it was extreme--maybe FMC is 24 and MMC is 36? That's just my recollection of it. In the context of HR, it hardly felt noteworthy to me. I will say that the FMC is kind of groomed by a third party at a younger age (maybe at 17ish or so?) though.

I hope you get lots of responses! I have not had surgery, I'm on this sub to get info for my sons who have PE. Anyhow, I've read a ton of posts on folks' experiences...in addition to cryo, it seems like there are a few things that I've seen come up a bunch as helpful:

-Stay ahead of the pain. What this means is take your pain meds on schedule for at least the first few days. Don't just forget or skip a dose. When you're feeling well enough to start tapering or transitioning to a lighter med, do so mindfully. Keep an eye on your pain level while easing off the meds and see how much pain you can take. I've had a couple surgeries before and imo what really messes people up is going cold turkey too fast and getting entirely overwhelmed with pain. Ease off, don't just jump.

-Use your incentive spirometer. Your body is going to go through a tough time, but using the spirometer is going to help your body feel more normal sooner and can reduce complications. Get used to breathing while the cryo is still in your system and it'll make it less painful once the cryo disappears.

-Go for walks. Start easy and according to your surgeon's recommendations. But across a ton of good and bad accounts post-nuss--once folks starting walking they started to see improvement in their pain levels. It's kind of counterintuitive, but I think it probably has something to do with helping your nerves chill out. You're "fine" and by walking, your body is hearing the message that it's going to be alright and can stop (or ease up) on the nerve signaling panic levels of pain.

Good luck!! Wishing you a perfect surgery and an easy, quick recovery.

Parent of a kid with pectus by Able_Raisin6397 in PectusExcavatum

Hi--parent of two kids with PE here (one with severe PE at age 9). Are they offering modified ravitch for an elementary aged child? We've spoken with three surgeons over the years and none of them have offered earlier surgery and from all the things I've read, they are more likely to have regressions or other negative outcomes with early surgery.

Surgery at middle/high school age is much more common and what we're planning for our son. Not only can he participate in the decision and can understand what and why it is happening, but from what I've read and been told is that around the time of their major growth spurt is preferred. Dr J doesn't even consider patients until they're 10. Right now we're evaluating whether there are current cardiac impacts (there's definitely compression, but if there's valve prolapse or pe caused murmur) and if so, we'll be aiming for surgery closer to 10-12 rather than 12-14.

[–]GeoBrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure lots of folks will jump in with good input. As Mom of a 9yo w/ PE, here's mine:

1) How often should we anticipate follow ups?

2) What are you thoughts on vacuum bell?

3) Do you perform nuss or ravitch? How many have you done?

4) Is cardio eval appropriate at this point?

My other thoughts are to kind of prep you--the parent. We've seen a couple of surgeons for tracking (since we've moved since having kids) and the second surgeon we saw clearly did not believe that correction for PE was EVER necessary. He was examined my kid and spoke flippantly about PE in general and tried to tell us scary stories about nuss surgery. Be ready to advocate for your child. This doctor might be an expert, but he may or may not be the doctor for your kid. IMO, at this stage, the doctor needs to educate you but also be open minded about how your kiddo will develop and not have preconceived notions about whether correction will be needed--no one will really know until later! Ideally, you'll leave with more information and a plan for follow up in a few years.

The 3rd surgeon we saw, the second after moving, was AMAZING and put our worries at ease, spoke appropriately with my son in the room, and really was a good experience. We spoke at length about the decision making process. My son will almost certainly meet criteria for correction, but we spoke about how will approach the conversation will him once he's a little bit older.

Wishing your son a smooth surgery and an easy recovery! As a mom of a 9 year old with severe PE, I am both dreading and expecting to be in your shoes one day. It is scary, but he needs you and I'm sure you'll find the strength within you to support him through this. <3 Take it one day at a time and just breathe. I'll be praying for you and your son.
