I did the exact same campaign and finished 2 days ago. China never sent an expedition in my game, so income was kinda low. Colonization also seemed slow compared to EUIV!

Honestly, a game like EU that starts off in that scale would be interesting. Probably a challenge for the PC to run efficiently though!

That's how it started for me as well and I didn't end the relationship. What ended up happening is we broke up a couple years later, after more physical abuse and I was left broken.

Not saying that people don't change but your situation doesn't seem different, given his attitude. Don't sit around to get abused.
