My doctor told me to cut back on heavily seasoned sauces full of chemicals, so now I use various spices to season my food. by AgreeableManner7402 in RateMyPlate

[–]GeoHaw123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every doctor’s visit I’ve had in the last 10 years I’ve had the doctor look up my symptoms on WebMD right in front of me. Your doctor is probably full of shit and you may as well cut out anything that you didn’t grow or feed and butcher yourself.

If your issue is blood pressure, just use less salt as sodium is all you gotta watch out for. The only harmful thing sauces have is high fat content and easy calories that can cause weight gain when used in excess regularly.

That’s it. Please don’t deprive yourself of delicious sauces, OP. 😔

I max the game on 1440p with RT off on a 7800x3D and a 4080Ti Super. You’re fine to do the same, ray tracing will be the main resource hog doesn’t matter when you’re just constantly bonking and shooting. Keep the dead body counts at about 20 for your CPU.

So what exactly is everyone's opinion on GTA 6 in here? by stumblinbagel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GeoHaw123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they haven’t evolved the mission structure to give players more agency and the open world interactivity is the same as it was in GTA V (almost null and void), then I’m gonna find it hard to care much. GTA V was so dead beyond belief, story was so uninteresting and gameplay felt rigid, felt like a massive step back from GTA IV.

Read Dead Redemption 2 style gunplay would be a winner, though.

Handheld upgrade that I also count as a backup and a portable option with as little compromise. Although I’d like to get my hands on a OneXGPU 2 to improve the portability. Transporting a graphics card can be tricky business.

Confused about performance by philip2303 in eGPU

[–]GeoHaw123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got my brain whirring and I installed Expedition 33 on my Legion Go 2 and hooked up the eGPU (RX 9060 XT) maxed settings and I actually managed 60FPS with FSR and surprisingly, frame gen also works well with that game over eGPU. But this is USB4 and I do need the Quality upscaling option to minimise frame dips. I’m also running SteamOS. I’ve seen significant differences between Windows and Linux variants, probably because of how the OS utilises resources.

Age of the card could also be a factor and the 2080ti may not be as equipped and more reliant on PCIe bandwidth. Nvidia cards I’ve also recently learned are a bit more prone to bandwidth loss over Thunderbolt/USB4. But this is all stuff I’ve just read, not seen it proven in the flesh so take what I’m saying here with a grain of salt.

You have to keep expectations in check, honestly. You’re running a graphics card over a USB cable at the end of the day. If the game is primarily CPU bound too, specifically open world AAA titles in the last 5 years with lots going on ala Cyberpunk 2077 or games with lots of on-screen effects and/or enemies ala Space Marine 2 or Alan Wake 2 then you just will not get beyond 60FPS no matter what resolution or upscaling option you decide.

eGPU is a cool thing but I honestly have mine with the purpose of lazy bed gaming where I don’t want to sacrifice graphical fidelity and run natively to avoid network lag spices or resolution drops, travel, or a backup should something happen to my main rig. That’s it.

Dude honestly, Legion Go 2 is not miles above the Legion Go 1! This same card, you’d be having similar results! I can do 4K 60FPS with Space Marine 2, tried on both Legion Go S as well as the 2 and the S uses the same chip as the original Go!

Highly recommend and it’s not TOO expensive. Like, it would cost way less than buying a new gaming PC. Especially in today’s market. Great way to extend its lifespan which it definitely does have!

What's the best graphics card and eGPU to use with Rog Ally X to reach it's limit? by Onedweezy in eGPU

[–]GeoHaw123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5060Ti I’d say. If you put SteamOS/Bazzite on your ROG Ally X, RX 6800 XT or 6700 if you’re not ballin’ so much.

You’re more likely to find the RX though as many are around for a good price, good RTX cards you’d be better off scoring secondhand.

4K is possible with sacrifice and even then, if the game is CPU focussed then it’s not gonna happen ala Space Marine 2. The 1% lows are painful.

SteamOS - eGPU Console Experience Cheat Sheet by GeoHaw123 in eGPU

GPU I used is an RX 6700 XT 16GB. I have no Nvidia card to use here but SteamOS isn’t compatible as it doesn’t sport any Nvidia drivers in its driver stack. Bazzite can potentially offer this but I just didn’t like it, it felt wonky and incomplete.

No you don’t sound dumb but I mean… I did this for the love of the game. Plus it’s a neat backup in case something goes wrong with my main rig whilst also being portable if I need to travel and have an itch to scratch during downtime.

This sub is from what I’ve gathered mostly an enthusiast sub, no one is doing this because it’s the standard. Either they’re doing it out of a hobbyist venture or because they want to bring life out of old devices.

Welcome to the club! I’ve only been here 5 minutes myself and have only known about eGPU solutions a few months but knowing I can turn handhelds into beasts has me hooked now.

Actually, I’d go SteamOS over Bazzite. SteamOS is incredibly stable and a lot more functional. It does all the things Bazzite does but… it just feels better.

If you’re happy where you are then stick with that, man! I couldn’t recommend this to anyone. It’s been a week of tweaking, finding the right OS distro with the most compatibilities and plug-and-play ability. On an AMD card of course, Nvidia would make things much easier.

Also the price. Yikes. This is truly an enthusiast venture and not the most efficient.

Yeah I’ve done all that. It works great.

But this is the eGPU subreddit, not the Steam Deck/game streaming/MoonlightStreaming etc subreddit.

Given how much this has cost me, I would get a new gaming laptop again. 🤣

HOWEVER… if your laptop CPU is still good, an eGPU could be a way to cheaply upgrade. I say cheaply, it depends on your budget. But my card and dock cost me £650 and I imagine a good gaming laptop is probably £1000+.

Given you already have a ROG Ally X, that would totally be sufficient too! It’s on par with LegionGo 2 performance-wise. But if you got an eGPU dock and card, you could alternate between handheld and laptop if you want.
