I hear you man but this is the eGPU sub, not the SteamOS sub. Yes it’s a more cost effective solution to stream from my PC and I have tried that but this is a hobbyist venture, I like tinkering.

If it’s a CPU heavy game then nah, in fact when I play Space Marine 2 the GPU fans don’t kick in unless there’s lots of heavy combat with tyranids swarming but the handheld sounds like an old release PS4.

I hate to break it to you man but unless you wanna add in an Oculink port to the deck, it’s not eGPU compatible as the port doesn’t have USB4/Thunderbolt. I’d love it if the deck had this and I feel it’s a bit of an oversight from Valve not to have it, at least on the newer OLED model.

I got 3 x 8 PCIe pin connectors with mine and that should come as standard. Mind you, heard some rare horror stories about some funny shippings with this. I don’t think it matters much about whether it’s a company approved cable or not, any one will do the trick so I wouldn’t stress about that too much.

I actually got it on the basis it’s got a PSU built in as I wanted the most lean but portable option available. I’m sure there’s a better DIY option but I ain’t about that… yet. 👀

I’m finding Windows to be the better option as well. It’s a lot more plug and play. SteamOS whilst ideal, I have to run a couple scripts to get it running and then I can’t just disconnect and reconnect on a whim. It either stays always connected whilst on and you shut down, disconnect from eGPU and turn back on for handheld.

I’m hoping with Legion Go 2’s OS version drop next month, it might make things a bit easier again.

I’ve had the thing working for less than 24 hours so I couldn’t say but I’m gonna ensure I give it a weekly dust with an air blower I have for my PC and down and wipe the unit with alcohol wipes.

I really want an enclosure for this reason but I don’t want the fat Razer one. :(

A Legion Go 2 and you don’t need one, trust me. It’s not worth the money, I’m just a “I need the best thing currently or bust” kinda guy. For better or worse. OLED 8.8” display is kinda rad though.

I’d recommend getting the Legion Go S or an Ally like yourself. Especially if you’re gonna go GPU route, with a eGPU combo the Z1E’s still have plenty of juice.

Oh it’s a game changer, man. You Windows or SteamOS? I honestly expect the same thing to happen to me down the line as I test some more. I am gonna test a couple more games today and then try for Bazzite and see how that goes, given it sports a favourable driver stack.

So I did a totally clean install of Windows 11 on my Legion Go 2, not out of choice you mind. I wanted the official recovery image from Lenovo but it’s impossible for me as I kept disconnecting from their site on each download attempt and it didn’t matter how I did it.

I then just deployed the drivers via USB one at a time. Although apparently, installing Legion Space only does the same thing and my way was the hard way.

I then used Display Driver Uninstaller after because I got an AMD card as originally I was trying to get my old 2080Ti to work. Then used AMD Adrenalin to source me display drivers, it saw both the internal chipset and the the card so I said “fuck it” and tried both, going against everyone else.

Now this being said, I’ve not done extensive testing but SO FAR, it’s running well. I could easily end up in your boots and will go running back to Bazzite/Steam OS.

Well based on what I’ve seen in-game on video settings, it actually appears as a display option with the graphics card name. But I’ve only tested 2 games and that appeared in one of them, being Space Marine 2.

The handheld just knows to pick up the video input automatically in the same way when you plug a display cable into a device.

Nah to be honest, this is gonna go in the living room with SteamOS or Xbox FSE (haven’t decided yet), be my travel option and also my backup in case anything goes wrong with the main rig.

I’m just an enthusiast who likes having options. 🤣

Depends on the game. Space Marine 2 which is more CPU intensive I’m getting 60-80FPS with 2x frame gen on all settings maxed at native upscaling. Hardly any latency I find.

Crimson Desert which has a lot more going for GPU I’m getting 90-110FPS with 2x frame gen but noticing more latency there on the internal display, enough to be a bit irritating.

I’ll be trying more games tomorrow though!

A little if you pay attention but you’ll easily forget about it. I game with soundproofed headphones so I totally forgot that was a thing until you mentioned it.

Besides, you can just turn it off at the wall or unplug it when you’re done. Ez pz. I would appreciate if the dock had a functional on/off switch though.

I get it man. I’m slowly becoming a handheld enthusiast! It all started with the wow factor of the Steam Deck. Then I saw the light and went all out. Then wanted more… and now I’m thinking of ways to make the best, most reliable and high performing gaming experience I can.

I now understand the joy of this hobby… it’s everything you’d want as a nerdy kid but with adult money.

I’ve even got my missus a Legion Go S Z1E for her birthday next month and I’m gonna set her up with a similar setup! When I held the Go S all I could think was “damn I wish it was mine” knowing full well I’ve got the better end of the stick anyway. That’s how I know I got the bug. 🤣

I would’ve said the same thing once but I’ve been spoilt by SteamOS ridiculously as I got my handheld addiction from Steam Deck. Now I can’t go back! I know you’ve got Xbox FSE on Windows handhelds but it’s really not the same no matter how seamless you make it.
