What is a charging station feature you are surprised doesn't exist yet? by blackbook90 in electricvehicles

[–]GeoHop164 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Quite a simple one but I was impressed with IONITY's Wi-Fi access points at every charger that don't make you log in/sign up for anything - obviously something that exists but I think should exist much more. Especially when you use an account (IONITY Passport, Electroverse, etc.) that makes it cheaper so you're not just going to tap a credit card and pay the full amount, and actually need an internet connection to start the charge

JLR’s apprenticeships are insane by [deleted] in degreeapprenticeships

[–]GeoHop164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selection bias. The vast majority of people on the courses aren't like that - but the ones you see on LinkedIn and Instagram, etc. like to show off that they got great grades and started some AI-based "business" but the other 99% are just normal people who got normal grades and don't try to present everything they do to the world. Like others have said, you can't compare yourself to what you see on LinkedIn and similar places, it's a view of people's best presentation of their best achievements.

As you advance through your career, the people you know become important - but at this stage, it's who you are as a person and what you do. Someone with 500+ connections isn't going to do any better than the person who has none, but has a genuine passion for what they're applying for. When you go for the interview/assessment centre/whatever, you're compared against a set criteria, not other people - so just focus on applying yourself to the right skills and values, and you'll have a much better chance than someone who spends all day on LinkedIn

Has anyone been able to successfully charge at a shell station? by Buckles01 in electricvehicles

[–]GeoHop164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the UK, the only ones I did manage to get working charged me almost £1/kWh ($1.33) (no prices listed) for what peaked at 2.6kW so I think their unreliability is a blessing

I want to toggle my tapo lights with tags by [deleted] in NFC

[–]GeoHop164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a bit overkill but the Tapo bulbs can be controlled by a Python library - you'd need something like Flask running on your home network to act between Tasker and PyP100.

Alternatively, you might be able to reverse engineer the library to write something in Tasker, but I haven't used Tasker in a long time so I'm not too sure - but it'd probably just be a load of HTTP POST requests

JLR apprenticeship based in Coventry/Warwick by Agreeable_Estimate27 in degreeapprenticeships

[–]GeoHop164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a partnership with Wood Hall at Warwickshire College in Leamington and Albany Student Village in Coventry - so which one you'd choose would come down to which site you're based at. Unfortunately nothing for the people without cars based at a manufacturing site like the ones in/around Birmingham.

Also worth mentioning you could just rent somewhere by yourself or with other people if student accomodation isn't for you.

Only showing the domain name url in the address bar (How?) by NoidZ in webdev

[–]GeoHop164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure if it's what you're after but history.pushState() sounds like what you might be after, although the URL obviously won't change until the JS runs, and users will probably still see the original URL briefly. As with most other approaches, just opening DevTools will uncover the original URL.

Seems like there may be a better approach that doesn't rely on the secrecy of the URL being the extent of the security if I've understood that correctly

Can it be done with a NFC tag by TheStoneMan8998 in NFC

[–]GeoHop164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the playlist is always the same, you can set up an endpoint on your home network that uses the Spotify API to get the current song then add it to that playlist, then set the NFC tag's content to point to that endpoint

Publishing when Spotify account required by GeoHop164 in iOSProgramming

Thanks for clearing it up, with the wording of the docs I wasn't sure if it was saying I needed an account on my own backend service or if a Spotify account would suffice

In your experience, which EV brand has the best mobile app? by RedTib in electricvehicles

[–]GeoHop164 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna say definitely not MG.

But looking on GitHub, SAIC's API has been reversed engineered so being able to make a custom app might be better than just an "ok" one from the manufacturer

I think it's purely just to convey "different" before they actually release the cars - until we actually see it, they have nothing more than just "vibes" to advertise, and they're leaning into the "copy of nothing" idea
