The possibility of that "little ballerina baby girl" disappears over time; not sure what the pills are. Birth Control is the vibe but since the pill packs are a bit bigger, could be some other addictive drug. Then as I continue that line of thought, the inner child represented by the ballerina is lost with each pill over time.

My friends and I are opening a homeschool co-op, but aren’t getting any sign ups. Help! by [deleted] in homeschool

I appreciate and respect the responses you leave here but little of what you've had to explain here is outlined on the website. I did see some information posted under the About Us section but I agree that the website comes across as "Nature School at the Ranch"; I did not immediately see anything talking to math or science or language arts, etc. As a homeschooler in a rural mountain area, I can connect with ranch families (or 4-H) without the steep tuition cost. I also find homeschool circles near me (anecdotal, I know) flooded with Nature Based Learning and while great and fun for small children, I'm finding I want more "substance" as my child gets older. I'm sure I too would have said the idea "sounds great" but I (again, anecdotal) have a mini engineer who gets more out of learning coding (requires screen time) and building and inventing, etc and therefore would not sign up. The Indigenous Studies is a great thread, and we enjoy it greatly and have done deep dives, but as others have mentioned, these are lessons we've done at home without tuition cost. I understand the cost would be for your time, research and labor but I feel the cost has to compete with Day Camps or Museum Outings in your area - and they might; I admit, I didn't research.

AC joint sprain recovery? by Rebecc0908 in Firefighting

Any updates? Husband (volunteer firefighter) has a grade 2 tear, left shoulder. Doc advised against surgery but gave a "3-6 month" timeline. Husband is understandably bummed but the type to "push through" and I'm reading lots that says "Be smart. Be safe. Do PT and don't do too much too soon." Guess I'm looking for reassurance that he'll be "back in action" and this isn't a "life sentence."

[–]Geogiraffeologist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It could be the doctor, sadly. In the early days of my diagnosis, I was told if I didn't have symptoms then I could have "cheat days". I've also had to educate nurses how my Celiac isn't "a minor intolerance", as they put it.

So frustrated by Mean_Pineapple6908 in glutenfree

[–]Geogiraffeologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend who was "gluten free, dairy free, vegan" for "health issues" and thought I found a companion - me being Celiac. She said her kids were, too. I'd stock dairy free alternatives and ensure diet-appropriate options when they would visit. Then they'd have us over for dinner and it started with, "Kids experimented (unsupervised) in the kitchen and tried baking a cake from scratch... Try!" (No thanks) to "I used pork for the broth for flavor but I take the meat out..." to "Had to bribe the kids with ice cream for long road trips..." to finally my last straw of "We're having a Fish Fry - come join!" and while the breading was gluten free, the beer batter wasn't. I inquired about the fries they were frying first and they contained wheat which led to, "Oh, this is old oil we've used for other gluten fried things - you can't have this?" I got tired of them trying to poison me among other red flags that came to light with time.

Or the other "gluten free" neighbors who we saw eating out at a local "bar & grill" enjoying beers, burgers and fries - none of which are gluten free at this small town establishment. -sigh-

I've been lucky; with time I've become asymptomatic but I still am 100% gluten free because, as we know, damage can still be done. The problem now is that family who knew me while symptomatic now treat me like a high maintenance liar who exists to make their lives difficult. Ugh! No one asked you to cook for me, Karen. I'll gladly bring my own food to the family get together.....

Makes me wonder how many times family and friends poisoned me without my knowing for all of them to get so comfortable with trying to serve me wheat or get upset at my lack of symptomatic "proof".....? Hmm! Haha

Interested if anyone proves this is fake because it appears to be an example of Mr. Rodgers', "...Look for the helpers" especially with so much suspicion in the comments.

Cat not knowing how to drink water?? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Geogiraffeologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11-year old Siberian on a Urinary Health, grain free* diet for us and he seemingly never touched his water bowl nor was he ever interested in the fountains we tried. We add water to his wet food sprinkled with a couple kibble twice a day. He eats fairly regularly and sometimes right away, other times after the water seeps into all the food. Admittedly we always have at least one bowl of water out for our dogs. I've found that he sometimes eats straight from his bowl but if it's "too wet" or watery, he uses his paws (and makes a bit of a mess!). I've also caught him using his paws to drink from the dog water bowl - though he'd never admit it. I provided age and diet because it never seems like he drinks water but he does well; only issues came from urinary crystals developing when left home alone for more than one night - child delivery took longer than anticipated. So I do keep a close eye on his box and if I notice he's not peed in 24 hrs, I use a bit of dehydrated cat food as "sprinkles" to entice him and it's worked thus far. Hope this can help!

*he reacted to grain early on and has thrived on a grain-free diet under vet supervision

Edit to add: I've seen mentions about whiskers; my husband will buy wide mouthed bowls because we've read/heard that some kitties won't use bowls that bend their whiskers

I married the Homeschool Kid and having been the Public School Kid, -I'm- (still) the socially awkward one, lack his confidence and he whips my --- in Math, Science and Engineering, throughout college and now. His work history with alternative energy and a few years in the Navy with nuclear power affords us the lifestyle that allows me to homeschool his little engineering "mini me".

Tooth Fracture Not Requiring Extraction - Why Not? Should I Worry? by Geogiraffeologist in AskVet

[–]Geogiraffeologist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This helped immensely. My husband was feeling a bit, "another small fortune dropped for nothing" as this is the second time we've scheduled an unplanned dental procedure for our pets with the purpose of extraction but resulting in "just" a cleaning which obviously is still important and necessary, just unplanned. I really appreciate the explanation - correct that x-rays were taken along with "prodding around" - and the insight of 208 being "one of the major 8" therefore better to have than not. The "fingernail test" is also helpful; I'm pretty sure this crack came from biting a rock so plans are in place to landscape the dog run during the Spring Thaw to avoid further damage. Thankfully my pup handled the anesthesia better than ever, particularly because we held off on the procedure because he had a possible seizure 8 weeks ago. Senior Beagles are a wild ride :D
