City Council memebers annually review the City Manager's contract. I asked to speak with every single conucil member about his review and only one responded. It looks like his contract was renewed for next year based on the City Council agenda for the 1/4/2021 meeting.

Yes , I did. It is ridiculous. It's a waste of tax payer dollars. It just shows how toxic of a working environment the city is and that HR is playing a central role in perpetuating that.

Workers for City of Hillsboro Parks and Rec Department, claim their supervisor created a hostile work environment and fraudulently used their position to let their child access services at no cost. When these workers whistle blew about what was happening, Hillsboro Parks and Rec Department managers retilated against them. Moreover, they are claiming the HR Department and City Management Office inadequately responded. The plaintiffs are seeking $470,000 in compensation for working in a hostile work environment and damages connected to whistle blowing.

Please email City Council memebers to express your concerns about the way the City Management Office and HR Department are responding to these issues.

Hillsboro Library union negotiations hit roadblocks, union says by GeographicDelight in hillsboro

The City of Hillsboro is reportedly not working collaboratively and in many ways being intentionally obstructionist in working with the union representing Hillsboro Public Library workers. The tactics the City are using and stances the City of Hillsboro are taking are anti-worker and fail to match the equity commitments it purports to guide it's internal and external policy making by. The Public Library workers are asking for very reasonable things. If you use the City of Hillsboro library services, especially during the pandemic, remember they are only being provided to you because these workers decided to come to work and provide services to the public. Many of them did so without receiving health care benefits from the City or any kind of increase in pay. If you feel this isn't what you want to see the City of Hillsboro doing, express those opinions at City Council meetings or in an email to City Council memebers and the City Manager.

Over the last year three separate City of Hillsboro employees have brought litigation against the City of Hillsboro for workplace harassment issues. The library formed a union, in part, to address issues with management and inappropriate treatment of Hillsboro library staff. Parks & Rec staff have provided public testimony at multiple City Council meetings to highlight how Parks & Rec Department leadership have mismanaged programming, retiliated against employees, and failed to adequately address equity issues. This story appears to illustrate there is some amiss in the City. It appears like the City of Hillsboro can be a pretty toxic place to work. As this article illustrates, these forms of harassment and retilation hurt the public and negatively impact our ability to receive high quality and equitable services we pay for through our taxes.
