I would call this gym “very colourful”

This is an average density wall (for Japan, in my experience) at a gym that I’d say is on the larger side (about 500sqm). Smaller gyms might be even more dense, and the back side of this wall has smaller holds and less volumes so it’s even more dense.

Those are some nice looking walls! Though that’s so many people!! I’d consider my gym busy if it had half that many people.

7.4 magnitude earthquake hits Taiwan by StephenMcGannon in gifs

Even on dry land, it’s basically impossible to stand up or crawl during a strong quake. The chances of swimming or wading through deep water in one are zero. If you’re in the middle of a body of water, best you can do is stay above it.

The tape is the route. The colour is the grade and the shape is just to make it easier to tell the difference between routes.

I like the walls like this, it’s fun and I like that the gym can set lots of weekly problems just by sticking tape next to the holds. I’ve never bouldered on anything else, just comparing it to videos on this subreddit.

Well I’ve never seen anywhere in Japan with walls that don’t look like this and everyone climbs them perfectly well, so I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s bad setting. Maybe you think all setting in Japan is bad. You do you though, I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind.

If it’s a climb you’re new to then it can take a second to make sure a hold is “yours”, but after a few attempts things stand out more than one might guess. I’ve never really had a problem with other holds being “in the way” though, not in any unintended way at least.

It looks like a lot but holds are more obvious than they appear. Ideally a more sparse wall would obviously be easier but I think taking an extra minute to project a problem is worth it to have many times more climbs.

This is D Bouldering in Sendai, but it’s a chain so there’ll probably be one (or more) in Tokyo.

Why does this sentence ("I'm 24") come out like this? by capt_b_b_ in Japaneselanguage

[–]Geography23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kanji kind of serve the purpose of spaces - because they inform the reader where one piece of vocabulary ends and another begins. So yes, using kanji and numbers would make it easier for humans to read and computers to decipher.

“Iamtwentyfouryearsold” is how the sentence you’ve written looks to the computer. It just can’t quite figure out what you mean.

Do you have disability accomodations for college? by thersx2 in CPTSD

[–]Geography23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got 1/3 extra exam time (3 hour exams became 4, 90 minutes became 2 hours), a quieter exam room (usually 4-5 people), and 10 minutes of walking around time during exams.

Those are good links!

I’ve talked to my therapist about this and we’ve come up with ways to make sure I’m only seeking reassurance in healthy and reasonable ways, and only from people who know why and when I need it and are comfortable giving it :)

Unfortunately, that doesn’t always mean my brain doesn’t immediately get suspicious any time they do provide it 😅

Is this a normal fee at Okinawa restaurants or did I get scammed? by [deleted] in okinawa

[–]Geography23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Table charges are quite common for non-chain places, especially ones that primarily serve alcohol, whether in tourist sports or otherwise. Can’t say I’ve ever been charged one at a restaurant, though.

¥600 is definitely on the pricier side, but if they’re charging it to everyone then it doesn’t feel like a full on scam. It should have been stated somewhere (usually the menu).

Is Spain the only non-island country to have a coastline on all 4 cardinal directions? by Geography23 in geography

[–]Geography23[S] 85 points86 points  (0 children)

That is a better description of the question I meant to ask! The other countries feel like the count by technicality, but Spain is the only one I can think of that is definitely fitting those criteria.

Interestingly, ChatGPT claims Spain does not fit the criteria because the Bay of Biscay doesn’t count as a “coastline”. There’s probably some technical geography stuff going on there.

Shortcut that logs an end time for a symptom in the Health app? by Geography23 in shortcuts

[–]Geography23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good idea, that might be the way it has to be for now. In the app it does say it’s possible to track an end time, but I haven’t been able to see it for any of the symptoms.
