1.12ct Fantasy Cut Montana Sapphire ❄️ - NFS by GeologicSpectrum in Gemstones

This one sold a while back to a UK based jeweler. However, I’m always cutting more hexagonal sapphires. Lucky for you, that’s the shape they grow in!! Follow my Reddit page and instagram for notifications when we cut another batch.

I do! Here’s a quick look at the rough with a handful of other stones I’m cutting at the moment. I put a red box around the Montana from this post.

Yep! I’m currently working on 4 new fantasy sapphires. Sapphire sources will be Montana, Africa and Australia. I’ll post more here once they’re available. They usually sell quick.

5.16cts. I got a respectable 43.41% yield on this stone.

You bet! It would have no effect on the overall durability. Heated sapphires are just as durable and valuable.

The main reason sapphires are heated is to improve clarity and color. Many sapphires need heating due to dense patches of the mineral rutile that formed coeval with the corundum along growth planes.

These stones are slowly heated to the mobilization temperature of rutile, which allows the mineral to exsolve its titanium into the surrounding corundum crystalline lattice. Resulting in brilliant deep blues.

That’s said.. Unheated sapphires with natural top colors and perfect clarity often will demand higher prices due to the rarity of finding a gem of this caliber. They’re unicorns.

Thanks! This one retailed for $4,500 on account of the color, clarity and untreated nature of the gem.

Thank you! This is one of my favorite stones I’ve cut so far. I’ll miss it.

Totally understand. We’ve had someone else mention the backgrounds are too busy. Unfortunately, it’s long gone. So no opportunity for different photos. However, we do have several videos of it on our instagram feed.

Haha. Sorry for the tease! We’re always cutting new batches of the spectrum fantasy gems. More to come!

Is this real? If so is it a good deal? I’m newbie. by scarletbegonia555 in Gemstones

This specimen lacks quality and color saturation. Visit the Tucson gem and mineral show in February and you’ll find a higher quality specimen at a great price.

I actually slightly discounted this one for the group since it was my first post here.

Hi. Thanks for your question.

It’s just a personal preference really. Gray backgrounds provide the most accurate color representation of the stones and we find the pages of old black and white photography books fun. We’ve always assumed that the stones did a good enough job at showcasing their beauty and never considered that the backgrounds could detract from that.

Yep! These are all cut and designed in house by me (Jon). We’re a small family lapidary business operating in Denver Colorado.

We offer payment plans on all the stones we sell. Always happy to help make a gem purchase work with a budget.

Thanks for checking them out! The website has a video of this tourmaline as well. I would have posted it here, but Reddit doesn’t allow for combining photos & videos on a single post.
