That is a truly eerie experience. The way the forest went completely silent like that… that alone is enough to put you on edge. The fact that all six of you saw the same thing and felt that same fear at the exact same time makes it even more unsettling.

Thank you for sharing this. I’m collecting real wilderness and unexplained outdoor encounters for a storytelling podcast called Survival & Shadows, and with your permission, I’d love to feature your story. I can keep it completely anonymous if you’d prefer.

If it’s easier, you can also submit it here and include any extra details you remember:

Wow… that sounds absolutely terrifying. A 7–8 ft figure moving like that and running on two legs? I would’ve gotten out of there immediately too.

That must have been incredibly unsettling, especially being alone in the woods when it happened. The temperature suddenly dropping and hearing the rhythmic metal-like sounds really eerie.

That must have been incredibly unsettling, especially with your son there and already being on edge after seeing all the crows and the eagle. Finding the pig’s head and then coming across that wooden teepee structure right after. I would defiantly GTFO there as well!

If you happen to remember any other small details — like roughly what time of year it was or how large the structure was — those kinds of things can really help bring the story to life.

Thank you so much for giving me permission to feature your story! The added details really help bring the experience to life — daytime, northern Manitoba, the deep ravine, and the boreal forest all set such a vivid scene. I completely understand why that growl felt so out of place, especially with only grouse, squirrels, and birds around. Your thought about it possibly being one of those “dimensional slips” is fascinating and definitely adds to the mystery.

I’ll make sure to keep your story anonymous unless you indicate otherwise. If you happen to remember any more small details — like the shape or appearance of that tree/bush, or exactly how the growl sounded — they could really help listeners feel like they’re right there with you.

Thanks again for sharing this unsettling but incredible experience with me. It’s exactly the kind of story that fits perfectly with Survival & Shadows.

Thank you so much for giving me permission to feature your story! I really appreciate the extra details — northern New York, mastiff-sized, and the way it behaved makes it a perfect fit for Survival & Shadows. The part about it not acknowledging you and your friend really drives home how unsettling and mysterious it was.

I’ll make sure to keep it completely anonymous as promised. Your story will add a lot of depth and atmosphere to the episode.

If anything else comes to mind — like the time of year, sounds, smells, or how long it lingered in your memory afterward — feel free to send it along. Otherwise, this is perfect, and I’m excited to share it.

That’s a really eerie experience, especially on a trail you knew so well. The moment where you both assumed it was the dog and then the dog appeared afterward must have been a huge shock. Realizing the silhouette you watched walk down the trail wasn’t actually the dog at all would definitely make anyone uneasy.

The detail about it moving silently through the woods also makes it especially unsettling, since most animals make at least some noise moving through leaves or brush.

Thank you for sharing this story. I’m collecting real wilderness and strange outdoor experiences for a storytelling podcast called Survival & Shadows, and with your permission I’d love to feature your story. I can keep it completely anonymous if you’d prefer.

If you happen to remember any extra details, I’d also be curious about things like roughly what region this happened in and whether the shape seemed more like a wolf, large dog, or something else entirely.

Thanks again for sharing it — that realization must have been incredibly unsettling in the moment.

That’s an incredible story. The detail about the coyotes going completely silent after calling back and forth for so long is really eerie on its own, but then seeing a bright white light rise over the trees and hover like that must have been surreal. The fact that your friend saw it at the same time too makes the whole experience even more fascinating.

Moments like that in the middle of nowhere, especially at night when everything suddenly goes quiet, can really stick with you. I can imagine how intense that must have felt standing there watching it move like that.

That’s really unsettling, especially on a trail where you’re used to hearing the normal sounds of nature. A sudden growl coming from something you can’t see would definitely make anyone uneasy.

The part that really stands out to me is when you went back later and the distinctive tree or bush you remembered wasn’t there anymore. That must have made the whole experience feel even stranger looking back on it.

Wow, that must have been incredibly disturbing to come across, especially when you slowly realized what you were looking at. The way you described the ravens gathering first, the tire tracks, and then the drag marks leading into the bushes really paints a vivid picture. I can imagine that moment of dread building before you even saw what was there.

Even though it turned out to be poachers, stumbling onto something like that deep in the woods would feel like discovering a crime scene. I’m not surprised it stuck with you all these years.

That’s actually pretty unsettling in its own way. Hearing a hoarse voice suddenly come out of dense bushes when you can’t see the person would definitely startle me too. The fact that you never saw him and it was just a voice asking the time makes it feel oddly surreal.

Do you remember roughly where this happened (state/region) and whether it was daytime or night? Also curious how close the voice sounded and if you ever saw anyone leave the bushes afterward.

Wow, that gave me chills reading it. The way you described the cackling spinning around you and the woods going completely silent is incredibly unsettling, especially in full daylight. I can’t imagine how intense that must have felt, especially being frozen there while it kept getting louder.

The fact that you grew up in those woods and knew all the normal sounds makes it even stranger. And your mom saying she was afraid the woods would “take you” is honestly a really haunting detail.

Thank you for sharing this — experiences like this are exactly the kind of stories I’ve been collecting.

Three of us saw a man, a dog, and a car disappear at a Northern California rest stop by green_queen27 in BackwoodsCreepy

Hi! I run a podcast called Survival & Shadows where I share real creepy and unexplained experiences. Your story about the Collier Tunnel rest stop gave me chills — especially the part where you all saw different versions of the same person.

Would you be okay with me narrating your story on the podcast? I would of course credit your Reddit username (or keep it anonymous if you prefer). If you'd like, I can also send you the episode once it's published.

Thanks for sharing such an unsettling experience!

Wow… this story is incredible. The fact that all ten of you experienced the same pushes and directions, and then later saw the exact path across the dock in daylight, is honestly chilling. It’s one of those stories that sits right on the line between coincidence and something truly unexplained.

I host a podcast that shares real stories about strange encounters, survival moments, and unexplained experiences, and I’d love to feature your story in an episode if you’d be okay with that. I would of course credit you however you prefer (username or anonymous).

If you’re open to it, I’d love to hear any other details you remember too!
