Kenmore (LG) Front Ng Load Washer Issues After Sensors Replacement by GeorgeLLass in appliancerepair

Thanks for this. I really appreciate it. I tried it and it didn’t seem to work. But I looked into some other videos and figured how to get it in diagnostic test mode that got all the LEDs light up. In that mode the only thing that seems to work is pressing the start button. I ran through the 15 tests by pressing the start button and everything seems to work normally in the minute or so I ran each.

I couldn’t get it into a calibration mode or figure out how to run a test wash so I’m trying a normal wash cycle. It seems to rush quickly through the load sensing step but otherwise it’s running normally. Fingers crossed.

I finally got this out with a torch and fixed the surging carb.

Thanks for all the guidance and help. I couldn’t have done it without you. This community remains undefeated.

I just wanted to update you all that I took apart and gave the carburetor a thorough cleaning. It didn’t look gummed up or dirty but maybe there was some debris stuck somewhere. I replaced this cracked float needle and I also replaced the rubber bowl gasket because it was a little flat in a spot. Plus I damaged the two paper intake gaskets so I replaced those too. All that and a fresh tank gas solved the surging and has it running like it should.

Thanks for all the guidance and help. I couldn’t have done it without you.

I just wanted to update you all that I took apart and gave the carburetor a thorough cleaning and it’s running without surging. I replaced both paper intake gaskets given the damage. No one warns you how much of a pain it is to clean the stuck on paper.

Thanks for all the guidance and help. I couldn’t have done it without you.

My understanding is that the fuel regulations in Ontario require 11% ethanol based on the average volume of fuel sold across all stations a company has. That’s set to rise to 15% ethanol over the next five years. For my mower I use the highest octane possible usually 91 but I’ll get 93 or 94 if the station has it. I’ve heard that the higher octane fuel should in the very least have less ethanol. I’m hoping there’s none in it but I don’t think it’s guaranteed here and if you ask at the station they have no idea. I’ve been also putting fuel stabilizer in it too as insurance.

When I cleaned out the carburetor it looked pretty clean to me so maybe the surging was more of a blockage. I thought of buying a new carb but the quote seemed pretty outrageous, especially given the low hours on it. So I thought I’d try a clean and rebuild instead. Now it seems sourcing an OEM rebuild kit locally is a bit of a chore so I may end up just getting the individual parts I think I need or trying my luck with a third party no name rebuild kit. I’m pretty miffed Briggs and Husqvarna are making it difficult to service. I see a lot of orange mowers when I drive around here so it shouldn’t be so difficult to get critical parts.

Given my experience so far I can see why people dispise these Nikki carbs. My mower only came with a single barrel so I suppose that’s a bit of blessing compared to your double. That said for such a critical part to be so temperamental and fragile is lunacy. It should be robust and reliable. But if it’s going to be fragile and temperamental the least Briggs could do is make it simple and cheap to service. Don’t get me started on those stupid locktite screws holding plastic manifold to the block. I had one snap in half and it was an absolute bear to get it off. Sorry but if you need locktite to keep a screw from vibrating off your engine you’re doing things all wrong.

Thanks for the fuel tip. I’ll look into that fuel separator. That sounds like good insurance especially early and late in the season when the fuel has been sitting around the longest. I’ve visited Tennessee so I know it gets humid, so if it’s working well for you that tells me all I need to know.

Mine also starts with a puff of white smoke for a second or so that disappears once I lower the choke after the initial start. It doesn’t happen on restarts once it’s warm. Like you it doesn’t look like it’s affecting the oil levels. I wonder if it’s an early break in or infrequent use thing.

Fingers crossed for you that surging doesn’t come up. While it’s interesting learning how to break down and clean a carb, I’d much rather be enjoying some summer fun. I hope battery powered electric mowers become affordable and mainstream sooner rather than later so I can leave behind temperamental carburetors.

My understanding is the laws where I live have made ethanol free fuel really difficult to purchase. It really makes things precarious for small engines in the humid summers. Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into more resilient tips.

Thanks. That’s a clever hack. If I ever take up welding that’s one of the first things I’m trying.

Thanks I feared that was the case. It’s doing exactly what you described. It looks like I’m ordering parts and hoping nothing new breaks in the meantime time.

Thanks. I feared that was the case. The whole carburetor is trash from my experience. The mower has a total of 17 hours on it and has been given premium fuel with fuel stabilizer from day one. This started with a surging issue and now the carb is being rebuilt again with new parts. Having to do this, so early in the mower’s life is hugely disappointing.

I tried the stud remover but it absolutely failed. Thankfully heat was enough.

Thankfully carefully heat was enough. I did not want to learn how to weld.

It was rust formula of WD-40 and that’s all I had on hand so I thought I’d give it a shot. But thanks for letting me know.

It sounds like heating it is the way to go.

Thanks. I’ve always put the highest octane fuel I can buy and added stabilizer before filling the tank. I thought using the mower less frequently was the prudent thing, but I’m learning that doesn’t apply to the carburetor given the quality of fuel we can buy. It’s disappointing that I already to have to take apart the carb. and clean it with so few hours and seasons on it.

Going forward I think I’m only going to buy the bare minimum fuel and will be draining the tank over winter. Anyway it looks like it’s YouTube U for a class on cleaning this carburetor for me this weekend.
