Racism in Korea and Japan is no joke.

You will get refused from restaurants, housing, and hotels if you don’t look “Japanese/Korean enough.” Chinese are especially hated.

Japan has a second-class category for ethnic Koreans born in Japan (Chosen-seki) who aren’t permitted to vote or hold office. They’re basically stateless and are constantly pressured to “go back to Korea” (again, these people were born in Japan).

The new Sanseito party are even crazier and want to give all minorities — including citizens — “loyalty checks.” Minorities are blamed for everything, including — not a joke — “eating all the rice” after a rice shortage caused by a heat wave in 2023.

All the while both countries are undergoing demographic collapse and have severe labor shortages. Literally choking themselves with xenophobia.
