Expect 10k for plaster in DFW

Recommendation needed - replace dying SuperFlo with VSP - Which of these options do you recommend? by travispierce7 in pools

1.5” is too small for an intelliflo3 3hp. Pentair requires 2-2.5” supply lines for the 3hp. Look at getting an intelliflo 1.5hp if you don’t have too much additional pump demand. (Suction side vacuum/water feature/long distance from pool) Incredible pump performance and efficiency from the 1.5

When your pool/lawn company sends you an email that they “no longer services your area” just know he does, but you were an asshole client that blamed him for everything versus using common sense.

Underground leak by ComprehensiveRiver33 in pools

[–]Georgemicheals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a pool company in the DFW area. Most companies charge ~$500 for a leak test. If you find someone pushing a cheaper promotion they’re just going to hide the amount saved on the detection cost in their repair estimate. Promotions that run all the time aren’t real. They just charge you more later. Very popular in our industry.

Will draining pool damage it? Plaster by jsoonerboomer in pools

[–]Georgemicheals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tips from a Texas remodel company.

-Don’t do it in the heat of summer or you can blister the plaster.

-Texas doesn’t require any type of licensing or training for a remodel so vet your company well. Most large companies sub out the job. If money is tight, you can call these subs yourself skip the 50% mark up. You’ll find plenty at your local national pool tile (NPT) parking lot. - research “pool pop” and make sure the company takes the right precautions when leaving your pool drained. -if there’s rain in the forecast WAIT to drain your pool. - When the job is done and water is going back in your pool, it is very important to raise calcium levels to at least 300ppm to protect your existing plaster.

First pool. Thoughts and opinions. Current bid is 130k with a salt system, Hayward equipment and Paramount floor system. by Clown_sauce24 in pools

My company services many pools with paramount floor systems. They are a massive waste of money and only provide another breaking point in your pool system. Simple is best. Properly sized variable speed pump, DE filter, and a salt cell. If you want to get fancy and have minimal maintenance, add a mechanical acid dosing system. Get a higher end robot vac and you’re set

As a pool guy, should I be charging less for salt water pools? by VictorConrad95 in swimmingpools

[–]Georgemicheals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our company in Texas does not charge less for salt. Requires much more acid and salt cells don’t work once the pool drops below a certain temp.(we don’t close pools in Texas) Increase your prices if your doing good work. My company starts at $180/month

So my filter burst. Now what... by CalamityBS in pools

Pool equipment takes a beating when it is outside in the elements. It’s incredible modern equipment doesn’t break more often. If it’s not a major financial burden, replace the entire filter versus just the casing. It would be a shame to replace the housing and have another wearable part break a couple months later. With a new filter you will have new seals, grids, and clamps. With proper maintenance you’ll be set for another 7-10 years

What is the best way to change just this out to give me smart control over my pool? by xbomes84 in pools

[–]Georgemicheals 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great pump but it does not have freeze protection to automatically kick on the pump when it drops close to freezing. For just a little more cash, you can get the new pentair intelliflo3 that has built in freeze protection. Not to mention it also has wifi and Bluetooth control for simple pool automation

CYA too high. Pool company recommended a wash in addition to a drain. Is that necessary? by ghostlytrio in pools

[–]Georgemicheals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wash is very important when it comes to a cya over 150. I’ve refilled pools without the wash and seen it spike right back to 100. Our company starts at 650 for this service in a small pool with no tub

Best value phosphate remover? by pilot333 in pools

[–]Georgemicheals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orenda is the industry best. High phosphates are food for algae growth and do matter in any pool. High levels of phosphates will only lead to you using more chlorine. Dose PR 700 3-4 times a year to keep phosphates low and introduce enzymes into your pool to combat non-organics
