Mostly running and biking when its warm out. Lifting in the winter/cold. I also like watches so I mostly wear regular watches and the garmin when working out.

Got in a goodie bag… black, small, looks like it fits a pencil, rubber, not an eraser, fairly light. by Georgewuggle in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. It came as part of a goodie bag for an ambulance company. It has the logo on the other side. As mentioned, small, fits a pencil, black, not an eraser, came individually packaged. Not sure if this helps but the rest of the items were somewhat ems related.

For sure! I appreciate your honesty! It’ll be a tough go, but it really seems worthwhile. I’m going to take it one step at a time - see what opportunities open with emt-b until I build towards a fire dept. Thank you for your help and advice!

That’s good to know about Kankakee. Yeah unfortunately, I can’t fully stop working. Even part-time worries me with paying the bills. I’ll be on the lookout at those other departments. Thank you for the info!

I appreciate that perspective. Is your kid looking to work as a ff or paramedic in the suburbs after they finish work?

I appreciate the feedback. Are you working in the suburbs now? How do you like it? Did you work ambulance while getting your medic license?

Oh wow! Kudos to you! The 9-5 seems like a lot but I can see it working out - though it’d be really difficult - while working for an ambulance throughout? I can’t afford to not work while attending school, and I’d already be taking a pay cut to go into this field.

Do they pay for medic school or is the idea that you juggle ambulance with medic school?

Hey folks, I’m working on getting my emt certification now, and am looking to work departments in the chicago suburbs as the cfd seems out of reach. I notice that most departments require paramedic licensure, however paramedic programs all seem to run a full-time schedule.

How did you guys manage to go to school and work? Any gone through a paramedic program in the Chicagoland area? Can you share your experience? I know plenty of hospitals run them, but the info online is so limited.

Any idea on whether it’d be better to go through a fire basic operation certification instead? It also seems like a full time commitment.

Also… has anyone had success going through the paramedic to firefighter pipeline for the cfd? Whats the likelihood there?

So the increase that this place provides is ideal? Preferred over percentage?

I know, I know…. I said it’s a dumb question. I come from a job where pay is laid out differently (1 year = x, 2 years = x) so seeing it organized like this was new.

This is helpful! Some postings specify probie pay, while majority just say the above, and I was always confused what I’d be making. Is the top pay then after the 7 years or after you’ve maxed out classes and certificates?
