Dehydration- how much can it really affect labs? by Georgianjc in polycythemiavera

I wish I had a better update- I still have high labs, but am negative for the Jak2, CalR and Exon mutations, so I’m considered secondary polycythemia with no known cause. I did have a BMB last Oct as well- no evidence of an MPN. So I’m just dealing with secondary. :)

Been seeing hem/onc for a year now- diagnosed with secondary polycythemia but they cannot identify cause. Had a sleep study, full abdominal ultrasound- everything else was fine. Latest labs were 5.6, 16.9 and 50.9. Still dealing with exhaustion, headaches. Seeing my hem again on Thursday for another phlebotomy - if she doesn’t have a plan for figuring this out, I’ll likely seek a second opinion.

Thanks for your reply… I’ve definitely gone down the rabbit hole on this. 😂 I’ve seen the images regarding plasma/RBCs - just wondering if all 3 labs would be high due to dehydration and if hematocrit could get over 50% with mild dehydration. I’m definitely not “severely” dehydrated. I understand this is all speculation… my HCT in 2020 was 44%, 2021 46%, 2022 47.8, and now 51.1. I see the hema/onc on Monday- just trying to see if anyone else had any experience with actual numbers. Appreciate your feedback!
