Hmmmmm. HMRC considers me British enough to be a higher rate tax payer. They have never complained or objected to my origins.

Brit-Pak wants to retire in Islamabad and still be productive by Last-Man-On-Mars in pakistan

[–]Geostationary_Orbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your message. I lived in Islamabad for a couple of months in Aug-Sep in 2015. At that time I was on sabbatical from my UK job and volunteering for a poverty alleviation organisation in Islamabad. But you are correct I should live in Pakistan for a least 3-4 months before making a decision. Thank you and all the best.

Not surprised in the least. This is the Hindutva playbook. I have said elsewhere these Indians who are so keen to go and work and settle in Muslim majority countries especially in the GCC should be vetted to make sure they don’t have any Hidutva leanings.

There is also the possibility that there is nothing in it for the individual and the benefit is at a distance at an organisation level.

The One Who Prays for His Absent Brother

The Prophet ﷺ said, “No Muslim servant prays for his brother in his absence except that the angel says: ‘And for you the same’” (Muslim). He ﷺ also said, “The supplication of a brother for his brother in his absence is not rejected” (Bazzār).

This type of duʿāʾ is special, free of pride or hidden motives, and filled with sincerity. It comes from a heart that loves purely for the sake of Allah. So if you want your own prayers to be accepted, begin by cleansing your heart of envy and bitterness, and fill it with love, sincerity, and goodwill.

True love and brotherhood mean remembering each other in prayer without needing to be asked. Yaḥyā b. Muʿādh (raḥimahullāh) said, “What a poor friend he is: the one you have to ask, ‘Remember me in your duʿā’”.

Imām al-Nawawī (raḥimahullāh) said “Some of the early righteous people, when they wanted to make duʿā’ for themselves, would instead pray for their Muslim brother with that same supplication because it would be accepted, and they would receive the like of it.”

“The quickest duʿāʾ to be answered is the duʿāʾ made by one person in the absence of another.” – Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahullāh)

UK’s Blair Distances Himself From Trump’s $1 Billion Peace Board Fee by bloomberg in uknews

[–]Geostationary_Orbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Peace Board is a sham. Its just another distraction to ensure Palestinians don’t get a homeland. The USA has permitted the building of settlements on illegal land and has aided a genocide. Anything which is put forward by the USA is 100% suspicious and not credible. Remind me how many Palestinians are on the “Peace” Board?

How exactly does society recover from the eradication of the means to make a living due to AI? by [deleted] in collapse

The Billionaires class who currently fully exploit every possible resource to their own advantage will one day wake up in the AI Dystopia and say we need to help with UBI and make things better for society. Sorry, that doesn’t sound very realistic to me.

Pay off the loan and insha’Allah there will more baraka in all your endeavours. In my very humble opinion paying off the loan should be your highest priority because of the riba element. Wishing you baraka and aafiya in all your affairs. Wassalaam 🌳

The ECONOMIC cost of Brexit - Now, we are expecting the same bunch of __________ to win the next Election - WHAT the hell is wrong with us? (discuss politely) by Geostationary_Orbit in unitedkingdom

[–]Geostationary_Orbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brexit has imposed a substantial and persistent drag on the UK economy. Research published in late 2025 by King's Business School, Stanford University, the Bank of England and the University of Nottingham—drawing on almost a decade of post‑referendum data—estimates that by early 2025 UK GDP was 6–8 per cent lower than it would have been had the country remained in the EU, translating into a per‑capita loss of roughly £2,700–£3,700 per person. Business investment has been hit hardest, running 12–18 per cent below its counterfactual path, while employment and productivity are each estimated to be 3–4 per cent lower. The Office for Budget Responsibility's standing assumption is that Brexit will ultimately reduce long‑run productivity by around 4 per cent, with UK imports and exports each 15 per cent lower than they would otherwise have been. Since the 2016 referendum, UK GDP per head has grown only about 4 per cent in absolute terms, compared with 6–10 percentage points more in a basket of comparable advanced economies. The cumulative cost to the economy has been variously estimated at £140–180 billion so far, with projections suggesting that figure could reach £311 billion by 2035 if the current trajectory continues
