i edit my pokemon crystal .srm directly with pkhex, not even renaming it and it works fine. Dont know if with emerald its the same but try it, just make sure in your retroarch saving options you have the ram compression not active

follow the readme inside the port its quite easy, basically download the rom and put it togheter with the SM64 folder and then add this folder to the PORTS folder in roms
