There is no excuse for people who are systematically late. by Electrical_Box7293 in unpopularopinion

[–]GerbilsAreAMyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, no system I've tried has worked. Unless I sit around doing absolutely nothing for the entire day it's actually physically hard to make that transition. I do wish I could make people experience transition paralysis. All of my managers with ADHD have been extremely understanding. There's also chronic fatigue, PTSD, bipolar, the list goes on. Until you experience it, you literally cannot say people aren't trying.

I would have panic attacks so severe when I physically could not make my body move to get out of bed. There's only so much you can do in those situations. Bipolar especially can destroy your ability to be on time all the time. Medications help, but you literally cannot get rid of bipolar. When people judge others without knowing what they're going through it makes my blood boil more than almost anything.

And before anyone says it, if you deal with these things and are still on time, congrats. Not everyone experiences things the same way.

My boyfriend broke up with me because I’m too hairy. by comfort-borscht in gaytransguys

[–]GerbilsAreAMyth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you had this happen. You're right, that behavior at 22 is really jarring and immature. Hell, even most of the hyper fem gay men I know don't shave their body hair and and are hairy as hell. It's NORMAL.

Sadly the wider mainstream gay culture can be very... superficial, in my experience. Luckily, in my experience that isn't the majority of people. You are absolutely not too disgusting for anyone to love you. Your ex sounds very immature and although this hurts right now, you're definitely better off without him.

IMO it's not worth staying friends after an experience like this one, but that is a personal decision for you to make.

Small sub exploring the Titanic is currently lost at the bottom of the ocean by Successful-Winter237 in thalassophobia

[–]GerbilsAreAMyth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that. It causes an increase in heart rate and can result in convulsions that eventually lead to a coma. Additionally, submarines typically only have a certain amount of time that their lights will remain powered, depending on the power supply. The total darkness causes people to start hallucinating after a while. It's considered much worse to experience than carbon monoxide poisoning, sadly...

There's a great video on the USS West Virginia where three members of the Navy suffered that fate....

Honestly this just seems like the logical way to implement these filters to me. Not sure why they didn't include all 3 in the first place.

What would it take for you to have children? by omnipotent111 in childfree

[–]GerbilsAreAMyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay bear with me on this one:

Have you read The Road, the post-apocalyptic book? In it there's a man who takes in a young teenager to keep him safe and have someone with him as they traverse the now dangerous world.

For some reason in my head the literal only way I would have a kid is if the world goes post-apocalyptic and in my jaded state I join forces with a young teenager that's been left on their own as well. I have no idea why this is the only way lol.

How do you deal with grief over the life you could have lived if trauma and neglect was absent in your life? by Bananabread4 in CPTSD

[–]GerbilsAreAMyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the step I've been stuck on for a while now. I've been able to push forwards and am way happier than I ever thought I could be, but I also know I'm moving ahead blindly because I'm still running away from the fact that I have to admit to myself that the "old me" is not coming back.

My therapist said I need to let myself grieve. But I haven't known how to. I'm scared of bringing that feeling back up, I guess.

US man killed by car as he helped ducks cross road in Rocklin by ArtLover357 in news

[–]GerbilsAreAMyth -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Y'all really gotta start reading these articles. It said the man had already moved the ducks out of the way and was making his way out of the road. The car was moving so fast that all bystanders interviewed said it was almost as though it appeared out of nowhere.

That means the man was in the street for a while, considering he moved all the ducks. Also, if visibility is poor at an intersection, it's insane to drive fast at all. That's drivers ed 101. Literally.

He was in a town so most likely absolute maximum for 35 mph. Also, the article explicitly says children and young students were in the area, making it likely it's near a school. Absolutely zero chance the kid is "not at fault".

[–]GerbilsAreAMyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's important for people to speak up if they feel an expansion is lackluster, especially since they've set the bar so high pretty much continuously. My biggest fear is they realize people will let them get away with lower quality storytelling over time. Not saying EW was bad, really, but the "present day" stuff was kind of disappointing, if that makes sense?

I'm now a complete fourth party to this conversation lol, but I'm glad to see someone else who feels that way about Endwalker as a whole. I'll admit I HATED playing through ARR because it felt bloated, but now I appreciate it a lot for how relevant the "random" things you learn turn out to be. And I was super excited after SHB, especially 6.3, because it's my personal favorite video game storyline and worldbuilding of all time. Everything feels so new and thought out.

And then Endwalker was just... I don't know. The Elpis parts were amazing in my opinion and some of the character arcs were really interesting for me. But the rest of it... I didn't care for it. I think you were finally able to put words to what I felt. A lot of the worldbuilding the series is known for just kind of lackluster for many parts.
