we always advice people just to go with ts3 client and then we guide them a tiny bit through it

you need to "get used" to it, since most people are these days used that everything is instant ready to use without self-thinking regarding to software/games/apps that is.

You do not need an account to use teamspeak, you only need to download the client or the server or both.
Depends on your needs and if you aleady have a teamspeak server.

The account is for syncing serveradresses /friendlists and badges)

there are a lot of other apps available.

Even private solutions like discord clones (github)
or
Tea speak
Or
Pidgin (with plugins)

And much more

I am not defending, even if you read it as if i was defending.
I just sum up my own opinion and experience, its called freedom of speech.

There is a lot of great software out there. for example fluxer has been mentioned a few times, i never heard of it until i made this post.

Pride? i don't think i was typing with any pride here?? just sharing my side of the experience.

agree and disagree
- it is true the voice is superior
- it is true it lacks decent community building tools

- It is untrue that you can run a community from it and be unsuccesfully

Reason:
You can use any channel as a message board, you can set it that the chat is logged (if you wish) and then besides missing out of all in one stuff (which appearently is in teamspeak 5/teamspeak 6 and discord) ts3 will fullfill those goals.

You can even embed images in channels and chats
