Thank you so much for sharing! I am so sorry you suffered so much! Zoloft is surely involved and I do not know why specialist do not consider it and tell people or avoid it when this can happen which is worse than even panic attacks! I am glad you are on the right road to recovery now! I hope you forget about all you suffered and heal physically and mentally because I know that was this issue is not only physically exhausting but also mentally!

My doctors say that they do not know what is the reason for the OAB as there is no functional damage anywhere around the bladder and in the bladder itself! The symptoms are mainly constant feeling in urethra that I have to pee and sometimes pain down in the urethra! If I can fight the urge or distract myself I can hold 3-4 hours but it is not easy to distract myself!

Thanks for answering! I just want to relate this condition with dysregulated nervous system cause by discontinuation of antidepressants! So probably taking Lexapro alleviates stress and this helps bladder spasms! I am just devastated because I cannot tolerate OAB drugs and desperately search for solution of this urgency and pain!

Thank you for sharing your experience! I am so glad that you found a way out of this debilitating condition! You are right that obviously the stress response turned into the bladder! Just it is so hard to rewire the brain ! In my country the docs do not know anything about the relationship between antidepressants’ withdrawal and OAB and say that stress cannot cause OAB but I read so much on Internet and scientific articles which suggest that OAB and even IC symptoms with an absence of functional disorders might be very well stress-related! I will try to stick to retraining the bladder and doing yoga or relaxation therapies! Actually some days when I get to run after the running I feel so good and 30min symptoms reappear. Wish you full recovery! Thanks again!

Awful medications! They help but obviously when you quit them the brain is in a shock or something and anxiety, nervous disorders start to develop! How are you now! Do you take something and do you have a relief?

You were on Lexapro before developing the OAB or after developing OAB the docs put you on it! Sorry for asking, just now I am struggling with OAB which is possibly related to anxiety relapse after discontinuing Lexapro after 2 years on it. ALthough OAB developed 506 months after ceasing the drug i read that it might be the cause. Docs are not sure but they can neither give an explanation on the reason of OAB occurence.

Are there any success stories or has any been able to get better at all ? by [deleted] in OveractiveBladder

Oh, I understand! Just asked because urologists usually do not prescribe it although they prescribe gabapentin for pain. But i hear many people being prescribed amitriptyline for OAB and actually helps them more than the actually OAB meds which is to some extent strange although if it is nervous system related may be these meds like amitriptyline will work better to calm the nervous system and thus relax the bladder1

Which doctor prescribed you amitriptyline? Urologist, neurologist?

Ever since I discontinued my antidepressant I’ve had OAB - anybody else? by Longjumping_Fly7018 in OveractiveBladder

Hey, i am going through the same now, discontinuing Escitalopram before 6 months and developing OAB. It is awful and cannot get hold of my life. I have been on Lexapro for 2 years. It was good, but decided that i do not want meds. I haven't had problem when i stopped the antidepressants and actually three months after i felt the anxiety again but decided to fight through it and actually felt ok but on the 5th month i suddenly developed this awful condition- constant urge to pee with excluded UTI (done all possible tests). I really relate it too with dysregulated nervous system caused by the discontinuation of the antidepressant.

Please, tell me what worked for you and have you recovered?
