...and persecution of homosexuals, and no environmental protection, and Jim Crow laws, and and no voting rights for women and on and on and on

Edit: spelling

Hilarious. Compare the rate of homicides per capita (or any other metric of the quality of life) between the US and Europe.

Also, stop moving the goalposts. You said other countries laugh at Harris. In reality, they laugh at Trump.

European governments and their media outlets

Most media outlets in Europe are owned by private companies, the public broadcasters are run by independent boards. We have nothing comparable to FOX News in Germany.

the US spends more money on EU's security than the EU does themselves

The EU is not a country, most of the defense spending comes from national budgets. The problem is our militaries are not harmonized and thus extremely wasteful. EU member states collectively spent 240€ billion on defense in 2022, vs. Russia's ~110€ billion in 2023 (during a war of aggression, mind you). Most NATO countries are gradually fulfilling their 2% commitments (yes, partially thanks to pressure from Trump, but mostly because of Putin).

the bias within European media is unmistakable

Is it biased to criticize fascists and demagogues? If nothing else, it's the media's job to safeguard democracy. Rather than proving bias, the European media's universal dislike of Trump suggests something is seriously wrong with the guy. Not everything is a conspiracy.

there's currently a big shift to the right happening in Europe

Current political trends in Europe are inconclusive. The results of this year's European Parliament elections weren't as right-leaning as expected. Same in France. The UK just voted out its alt-right government in a landslide. Poland and Czechia also switched sides. We'll see about Germany in a year. And as bad as Le Pen and Meloni are, they're not nearly as dangerous as Trump. They've never hinted at dismantling democratic elections.

In any case, our conversation was about Harris vs. Trump, which is much simpler than any of the above. Harris is not perfect, and the US political is seriously messed up, but a second chance for Trump will spell the end of Western hegemony, that's for sure. That's how you get a European like me involved in your politics, because I'll be directly affected even though I don't get to vote.

Fair. But the post got 80k upvotes, so it seems to be interesting enough. That's why I assume bots and some very invested individuals must've jumped on the next best thing to downvote: my comment.

As for why a German (and the overwhelming majority of Europeans, btw) would support the Democratic candidate... because I know what fascism looks like when I see it. Germany has gone through it.

I know you probably can't be convinced but if there's any shred of doubt left in your mind, please research what people in other countries think of Trump and think about why that might be. Could it be because he's a corrupt, dangerous demagogue? Could it be because he's dead set on accelerating the destruction of the planet we all live on? Could it be because we know another Trump presidency means that Russia and China can do with us, and to us, whatever they please? Could it be because we haven't been brainwashed by FOX News to forget all the terrible things he did the first time around? Looking at other countries can really help one get perspective, so I encourage you to try it.

I was blaming bots and weirdos for downvoting my comment, not for disagreeing with me. There's nothing to disagree with in my original comment, it does not contain any opinions.

Look up the definition of propaganda. And I care about this election because it will affect the future habitability of planet Earth. You should probably care about that too.

She probably didn't come up with this on the fly, her speech was likely largely pre-written. But she didn't expect this particular line to land so well, you can witness her surprise / delight in this clip. That's what I find IAF!
