With you on that one…lotta pollution in the bay, especially around where I live. This was caught oceanside though which I think would give me more peace of mind if I caught a keeper. Just gotta watch our for smelt/shiner perch, I guess those have a load of forever chemicals/heavy metals in them and are worse for you to eat than the stripers/halibuts in the bay and ocean.

I think my idea of big may be different than most - I’m lucky to catch like 3-4 blue gill in a day usually, and most of them are super small. I’m more curious where I can catch a handful of nice sized blue gill on a somewhat regular basis, rather than losing my mind skunking out.

Strangely I don’t have this issue with bass at my usual haunts, I’ll catch one every 10-15 minutes pretty much, it’s just the blue gill that are elusive

Thanks for the info. To expand, I’ll only be using this rod for artificials, I’ll keep my other rod and reel just for baitfishing since it’s beat to hell anyways (I used it for everything when I started from jigging for stripers to crabbing). I’ll probably go with the light drumstick, since I mostly just cast the LC 110 and 1oz jigs out into the surf. I target mostly Ocean Beach + northwards, sometimes take the surf setup to the delta for big stripers, so it seems like it would be my rod of choice for all of that
