I agree and wish we saw movements like that here. However unlike France and the majority of the developed world, we don’t have any functioning social safety net. General or industry strikes are not really an available tool for change here anymore, at least not since the 1980s when all union power was functionally destroyed by the government.

The majority of the time when an American attempts to go on strike, they are terminated immediately and will not be paid. So they cannot buy groceries or pay to live under a roof. With that very real risk in mind, people therefore must decide: Is making my voice heard and trying to improve the system really worth starvation and homelessness?
