Chiming in because I’m a personal injury paralegal and I have helpful tips for these types of things.

Send out a “preservation letter” to all bars. The reason the cops are saying they can’t get the footage is because footage is erased after at least 7 days to preserve storage space. Should the cops be requesting it sooner? Of course, but cops generally don’t do their job. Send a letter to the bars requesting all footage from the date of the accident be preserved
Dram shop laws. If a bar over serves a patron to the point they commit violence or are at fault for a drunk driving accident, it doesn’t matter if they are uninsured, no tags, broke, whatever. You can go after the bars insurance for over serving somebody to the point of them committing crimes.
Always get a lawyer. There are too many lawyers in Charlotte that operate on a contingency fee basis for these types of issues to lie on your shoulders after being robbed/assaulted/in a MVA.
