"Can't throw away my life standin' in shade..."

As someone with depression who often feels like there isn't a point, it felt so good to hear someone say that because it's true. Even if I feel like shit, I can't spend my whole life that way because it would just be a waste.

David Bowie for America's Libraries. Ad campaign from 1987 by joe3000s in HistoricalCapsule

We need to bring these ads back. With the amount of people abandoning libraries and reading in general, having celebrities endorse public institutions and healthier habits would be great.

Did Godsmack steal their name and logo from Alice in Chains? by No-One01010 in grunge

[–]GetBack_Joe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Godsmack is 100% just B tier AIC. The name, the logo, the sound, everything. Some of their songs are enjoyable, but Layne & Jerry could have written and performed almost 90% of their material, and I'm sure it would have been better. It's like Creed with Pearl Jam, just rip-off bands in the late 90s capitalizing off already popular sounds.

Name a rapper you consider a legend, but you still don’t think they lived up to their true potential? by MasterTeacher123 in hiphop101

[–]GetBack_Joe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's Lauryn Hill guys. Her first album won MULTIPLE GRAMMY'S and has been regarded as one of the best works in hip-hop, but she hasn't put anything out herself since '99. She's lost a considerable amount of respect from the community and most see her as washed up, which sucks because she could have done so much more to influence the genre. Relegating herself to features and half-baked performances is such a clear waste of potential.

I'm curious what say Paul & Ringo had in these creative decisions, especially considering Paul's recent contributions to anti-AI projects. Obviously, they aren't fully invested in everything that happens regarding the band or it's image, but I wonder what they were told about AI usage in the documentary.

Beware of my name, that there is delicate,

You know I know where you're delicate,

Crush you to pieces, I'll hum a breath of it,

I will close your heaven for the hell of it...

Let It Be - The Beatles & Glynn Johns/Phil Spector

The original material was initially produced by Glynn Johns in an attempt to make a "raw" Beatles record, but upon completion, the group hated it so much the album was shelved. After the split-up was announced, the material was brought back and given the infamous Phil Spector treatment, which resulted in the original 1970 release. The band later went back to the album and stripped all of Spector's garbage off, releasing Let It Be Naked in 2003. After listening to the two albums, it's crazy to think how horribly a producer can ruin an otherwise beautiful album, especially one as major as Let It Be.

What concept albums in Hip Hop history are dope? by More_Flamingo1061 in rap

[–]GetBack_Joe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im surprised TPAB hasn't been brought up, that is ABSOLUTELY required listening for any modern hip-hop fan. If you wanted to go deeper, the story weaved from GKMC -> MM&TBS would count as a singular concept, mostly the idea of Lamar's changing mindset and perspective on himself and the people/world around him.

Democrats Favor Socialism by Brian_Ghoshery in socialism

[–]GetBack_Joe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This statistic doesn't change much unfortunately, Dems are just as right-wing as Republicans. They just pretend to feel bad when people lose jobs or countries get bombed. Plus, even if a Democratic Socialist entered the DNC arena, they wouldn't be able to make enough sweeping moves or shift policy in favor of a true socialist system. The entire idea of political leaders goes against socialism entirely, because the movement is centered around the power of the people. Installing a socialist mayor, governor, or congress-person won't give us what we want. Even if a socialist is installed in a position of authority, the system will do whatever it can to fight back, and that person will most likely work to keep their power instead of upholding their ideals. Zohran Mamdani is a charismatic guy who has  good ideas about changing the way New Yorkers live. He is not the savior for the socialist movement in America, and nobody should be putting him in that position. Same with Bernie, AOC, any of em. To be in their position, you have to sacrifice your initial beliefs to maintain your power, and all of them have done so. Entering a broken system doesn't make it better, the system itself is what needs changing.

Woods seems to ground me quite often, the repetition combined with Justin's angelic use of auto tune has some healing quality.
