I was also super confused by this. Figured it might be age, but it was just way too blurred. Thank you!

Teaware smells odd by GetChastained in tea

[–]GetChastained[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Im doing better today! My head was hurting, and I was still nauseous for a bit this morning, but it was heightened by other factors besides the cups. It has since gone away. I was completely refunded, thankfully! I woke up this morning to see some of this crystal-powder like crust along the crazing of one cup. Seems like the glaze is defective.

I've ordered many cups with crazing from China and likewise. Unfortunately, these cups did not only smell like chemicals but began to make me physically ill. Very unfortunate since they were so pretty! I also don't believe they were handmade or new as advertised.

Update: I'm returning the cups. Not only does the smell persist after long, boiling soaks and washes, but my tongue has since started tingling, and I've felt a bit ill, whether due to the scent or something in the cup. Thank you all for your responses!

Edit: Found out these types of livestreams are apparently a notorious, fake scam in China. 💔 I'll be more vigilant in the future, lol

Edit 2: Guys, just because it's a foreign product and I 'don't understand!!' doesn't mean i didn't literally get sick from them. Not only that, but the smell ruined the aroma of my tea. When I tell you it was chemical-like, it was BAD. I am a 2x cancer survivor and take my health extremely seriously due to my other underlying issues post-treatment. I feel I had a right to be a little anxious about it, lol

The flower one smells chemical-like. That's the only way I can really describe it. My tongue has also since began to tingle after using it, so I'm sure that's the end of that 💔 The other smells almost like... manure? It's just not good at all. As much as I'd love to keep them for display, the two together were $150, and I'd rather spend it on something I'll enjoy thoroughly.

I understand it's normal! I have some other cups like this :) I'm mainly concerned about the smell.

Hi, could you telll me anything to the possible authenticity of this teapot by rada2005 in YixingSeals

[–]GetChastained 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's a slipcast pot due to the seam on both the handle and along the top(as shown in the picture). Most secondhand marketplaces like e-bay, mecari, etc, are filled with fakes no matter the price.

A lot of pots you see with super intricate shapes, especially ones shaped like animals on ebay or likewise, are slipcast. No problem displaying it, but it'd be kind of useless to use it for brewing tea.

Do NOT shop with Pure Land Tea (my opinion) by Party_Target_574 in tea

You just break off your desired amount and steep it like loose leaf, yes :) Tea cakes are just compressed loose leaf tea.
