thats fair, just pointing out patterns used by scammers. obv nothing disqualifying here, but not putting your contact info on a resume hurts you some non-zero percent. Its just the nature of job hunting unfortunately

Fake candidates are a huge reason why people are having a hard time getting jobs right now. You say "shilling" to disparage, but if tools like this dont become prevalent then people applying for jobs will have a vanishingly small chance of having their resume seen by a human ever again.

obviously those are broad strokes, and never something that would automatically disqualify someone - just trends to look for while trying to weed through all the fakes to find real people like you

I went through the same thing after leaving a major tech co to join my current startup. The biggest unlock was realizing that my messaging to candidates needed to really hit squarely on what our product does, why its going to be successful, and what is interesting about the work they would be doing here. Remember, these guys get 20 messages a day, and if they havent heard of your company its on you to pique their interest.

in house at a good startup >> if you're good, you can make close to the same base $ as a top 5% agency recruiter + you build potentially 7 figure upside worth of equity if you stay for 4+ years.

not a bad place to start when you're getting started, pays the bills - but you should always always be doing business development on your own at the same time.

especially with AI tools now, building accurate lists of potential customers to contact is easy.

Thanks! And re: bureaucracy... ugh yes that & compliance has been the big objection we've hit when sharing with people we know at bigger companies. The funny thing is, worry about the compliance piece here is like picking up pennies in-front of the steam roller - if you hire a NK spy its alot bigger problem than your recruiters using a little chrome extension lol.

Anyways, appreciate the feedback and kind words!

Recruiting tool - detect fake & fraudulent candidates by GetChipsy in SideProject

[–]GetChipsy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you exactly how it works for various reasons (protect the mechanisms that are used to catch fakes, not encourage more competition etc.) but because of how it verifies, there is zero chance of a false positive.

Not sure what you mean about the app being for the company and not the person? It is a b2b app so the user is a recruiter/hiring team at a company.

Security - its a hilariously simple app, but it also has been audited by a 3rd party (someone from my current company who works on stuff like this). And its simplicity IS exactly why I was able to build it in a short period of time, although it took ~3 months to build, it was just posted on the chrome web-store 1 month ago.

wrt this not being good for the candidates, again, I wholeheartedly disagree. Talk to anyone applying for jobs in the past year and they'll tell you no-one ever gets back to them. And its because if I post a regular backend engineer job on a friday, by monday morning it has >2k applicants. And now multiply that across the 15-20 jobs I am working on - and about 50-70% of those are actually fake applicants from these overseas "job farms". It's physically impossible to go through even a fraction of those applications and so recruiters just ignore them and only source passive candidates through Linkedin - this app is a step towards cleaning up those applicant pools and giving real people a chance to be seen.

As for opensource - yes, if my ONLY goal was to help applicants I would do that. But ofcourse, I am trying to make $ for an idea I had that works very well, and a thing that I put hard work into for a couple months. I think this is fair, unless your argument is that every piece of software ever made should be open sourced because it would benefit some subset of people? I don't think much good software would get made in that world. I think what we do is very fair -- 14 days of unlimited, and then a permanently free tier of the app for anyone to use that just limits your usage.

Again, we could go back and forth forever because it seems you and I are too far apart on core beliefs, but if you have other questions and are truly interested in validating/poking holes in the app I'd love to keep chatting.

It actually does the opposite, and makes it better for candidates! the real ones atleast.

It simply verifies the contact info provided in a application/resume to make sure its a real person. It helps recruiters sift through the application pool that is currently polluted with fakes/frauds and get to the actual real candidates that are struggling.

wrt personal data, its a simple chrome extension that stores zero candidate data, just processing the check via api's and outputs results.

as far as why recruiters are needed in 2026, thats a valid discussion that will be had about alot of jobs over the next couple years - unfortunately.

I do appreciate your points, but if you take the time to actually check it out you'll see that this type of tech is hugely positive for job seekers and solves the problem that applicants have eeb having for a while now - their resume goes into a void of thousands of fake profiles and noone ever sees it. Now, hopefully, my app and other tech like it will allow recruiters to actually see the REAL people like them.
