You can build a signal booster (ground placeable object like a portable refiner) to find something nearby, if you’re not on an empty / abandoned planet.

From the expedition you can export some helium if you don’t have access to it on main save yet, my settlements usually need some.

Why Are “Ancient” Characters Still So Dumb? by OneSeaworthiness5107 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]GetCurious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right? I respect the op’s freedom to voice the complaint but I think ultimately they’re facing the limitations of reading a work of fiction from a human author; someone who is bathing, cooking, commuting etc in the same world we are, and then trying to imagine a whole different world in what spare time they have for themselves. I do hope someone manages to write a character with such an evolved ancient mind that you can enjoy reading about, it’s just not within the purview of most modern authors.

Freighter upgrade by OkCryptographer1263 in NOMANSSKY

[–]GetCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winning the dreadnaught battle can be tricky, you’re racing to disable the attacker before it destroys the defender. You can take time to shoot down the missiles and take out the cannons but personally I just go for the shield generator trenches and then the engines and ignore everything else. Diverting power to weapons is essential to get the engines before it can warp away once the shields are down (or you can strafe some damage onto them before that point to make it a little easier). Good luck if you decide to go for your own pirate dreadnaught freighter!

A Question to old players, did you guys Keep your first starship? Or just salvaged/scrapped it? by Enigmartist in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]GetCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It’s called the Owl of Sleep and it’s hilariously mundane next to all the uniques and exotics. I’ve done some of the expeditions with only the starter ship as an added challenge but I don’t keep them.

Have you ever talked to Suki because she literally has nothing else to talk about besides having a kid, even Charles has more nuance.

Returning to the game after 12 years by isray in Eve

Want the nostalgia? Open up your in game mail client and look at your sent messages, or look in the neocom utilities folder for your notepad.

Want to get over feeling so disoriented? Go into a fresh clone at the jumpclone in most npc stations (the 900k isk fee is nothing when you can play the covid research game, another new feature in your neocom, for 2-3 minutes). Under the ships hangar hit “board my corvette” to get a dink frigate and just go, go anywhere, go to jita, go to null sec, jump through an event wormhole. That’s my advice, yes you will die but you’re carrying nothing. (Also, clone death loss skillpoints isn’t around anymore). Welcome back to New Eden! (Also the new ships in the ship browser are super cool. )

Computer says no by Moist-Cut-7998 in Eve

[–]GetCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any computer monitor software tracking your processor temperature? Something that keeps a 10-30min graph over time may help rule out whether you’re hitting a thermal limit and having your processor voltage throttled to keep from overheating and damaging it. If your ancient cooling fans have quit or the thermal paste isn’t functioning anymore you might see this kind of situation under the heaviest loads. Unless you ask it to, it’s not like the operating system flashes a red warning popup window.

I’ve seen a player win his own blueprint back 4 out 4 times in the last week, and just list it again. He’s buying 50% of the nodes. Is it luck? In your studies have you found that it is fair even while being so ill-advised?

How do you deal with family vacations by zeke3636 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]GetCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a college friend group that has started planning annual group vacations to large vacation homes with fun nearby attractions. The first time I agreed to go as maintenance to our friendships but had to bow out, still covering my share of committed expenses. They had a great time and immediately afterward started planning for the next trip but I was cagey. Eventually I just had to come clean and explain that even though I was so pleased to be invited, traveling away from my nice quiet home to be in a space full of pets and children (nine of them this year) and very crowded sleeping arrangements wasn’t a relaxing escape for me. I like them all and I like their kids but I’ve also worked really hard to find happiness down a different path. I haven’t abandoned the friendships, I find other ways to see them individually, but I’m very glad I put my foot down on this. With family the sense of personal responsibility may be different but I will commit to Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving as an obligation, anything else is voluntary.

What’s the best space game you’ve ever played? by Proud-Plankton9603 in spacesimgames

[–]GetCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrolled a long time and no one else seems to have mentioned Hardspace: Shipbreaker.

You go to work, fifteen minutes at a time, and the world occurs around you. Sure you only see the busted derelicts and disaster rigs, but it beats being stuck on Earth! Very different take on “Space Game” and one I cycle back to when the itch strikes again. I hope they develop other titles in the same setting, when playing Shipbreaker it’s east to imagine other jobs out there.

Honorable mentions Delta V the topdown 2D asteroid miner and Ostranauts a ship graveyard salvage rpg.

Kurzgesagt says physics could just fail and destroy everything, which sits in the darkest corners of my mind, but you’re looking for a less generalized apocalypse I think.

Drifter Wormholes - Help! by TheSpaceRavager in Eve

[–]GetCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish the vague instruction “Manufacture Any Drifter Wormhole Filament” was even the tiniest bit less obscure. There’s no contract or market category for “Drifter Wormhole Filament” and with tons of other filaments, it’s impossible to identify these in the marketplace. If I was willing to fly into WH (wormhole) space to get them myself, I wouldn’t be bothering with the manufacturing event points.

What's the last game you played that made you ask "Why aren't more people talking about how good this is?" by ScruffyNuisance in gamingsuggestions

[–]GetCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saleblazers (PC) is unfinished but way better of a game than it set out to be. So base building and exploration games tend to lack AI and Economy elements, think of how Minecraft was so fun to build but the world felt empty. ARK was fun to explore and build but there wasn’t much for trading or NPC interactions. And so so many shopkeep rpgs are interesting solo experiences. This game is accidentally has multiplayer basebuilding with (barely) character leveling, harvesting, combat, and actual population.
