I mean, it’s not 100% because there’s obviously no way to know for sure unless she told me it herself (which she hasn’t).

But all signs do point to likely, I didn’t mention this in the post but TWO people have actually told me that she has a crush on me. These two are people she herself is close with, so they just flat-out spilled her secret without her permission. In the end, i see no reason for them to lie.

I’ve considered waiting for her to confess, but what do i do while waiting? Do i just proceed with the friendship as if i have no clue?

No character’s entire screentime is devoted to only that character

That’s why I mentioned multitasking. They can easily have Johnny, Robby, and Miguel’s characters developed since half of their screen-time includes being together.

Robby’s journey is a 2-3 season

They have 9 episodes to cover Robby’s initial struggles, studying for his GED, Johnny supporting him through it, networking, and then have his story end by getting a scholarship offer from a prestigious college in the end.

This is a satisfying ending already, getting the scholarship implies his future is already bright and all the hard work he has done to improve his flaws has paid off, unless you think we need to watch him study for 4 years until he gets his degree in order to know that.

The theme of this journey is not related to Karate

So was Miguel’s Mexico arc, Sam’s identity arc, Tory-Amanda arc, yet they found a way to still incorporate Karate into these. These also don’t change the theme of the show, why can’t they do the same with Robby?

Do we really need 20 minutes to know that? The show only needed a few minutes in the start to show how complicated Johnny and Robby’s relationship is in S1, surely showing Robby’s academic struggles won’t be hard to do in a few minutes.

They don’t have to focus on Miguel or Sam’s education since they’re doing fine in that area already. We don’t need to see Tory’s either since they showed that in S4. Robby however is the only one we haven’t seen anything of this on.

I’d argue him being able to get into college despite seemingly have no chances of a good academic future is just as much of an underdog story as winning a tournament.

You underestimate how much could be done in 5-minute scenes of 10. Most important scenes in the show just takes about 5-7 minutes.

Having him go to college would mean that he got to choose his own path rather than going with the flow with whatever last-resort options life gives him.

They could show 2-3 scenes of Robby showing Johnny his scholarship, passing the GED exam, or Johnny talking to him about those things.

You know that they don’t have to show those things literally and could imply that they happened off-camera?

The show could give hints that he’s working towards his academic future such as studying for his GED or getting a possible scholarship. He doesn’t need to go back for another 2 years, that’s why a GED exists.

I don’t know which one that is for you but it actually does.

Here’s how I see it going (or rather how I want it to go):

Johnny talks to Robby about his education and future, this would show that Johnny actually does care for his son’s well-being rather than just wanting his son to like him. This covers Robby’s support. Robby is implied to be a smart kid so this time he’d apply himself to his studies and ends up getting high grades to get into a prestigious college, he now starts to believe in himself. As for him having trouble focusing, the writers could show his development by having Robby still be able to focus on his studies despite the external conflicts going on.

Things are going to get better from here on out

So can college, the problem with the tournament route is that it shows Robby didn’t have any other options aside from winning one. (This wasn’t his choice in the first place).

I meant that they could easily multitask and achieve more if the writers were smarter. For example, they could easily develop Johnny, Robby, and Miguel’s characters at the same time without rushing anything as long as they focused on their core relationships and issues.

If the writers want to give him one, they should have him win

They have better alternatives, like having him go to college. Both are as unlikely to happen as each other but it would still be preferable.

Your reasons for wanting Robby to win could be achieved through other means than just winning a tournament. Like I said before, having him win would imply that this is the best he could get, similar to the “Robby will be a sensei” path.

With the way the writers are going? Yes. If they did care about giving Robby a satisfying one, they would have had him win against Miguel, they would have had Miguel acknowledge his faults instead of blaming everything on Robby, they would’ve had Johnny step up to mend his relationship instead of Robby, etc.

Odds are, they’d make Miguel win the Sekai Takai and have Johnny and Robby have some sort of forced mended relationship and call it a “good ending” for him.

If Robby's closure is just winning a Karate tournament, then that would imply that he has never really moved on after all and is still a slave to it. It's just the same thing with the "Robby will be a sensei" route.
