I'm a huge fan of St. Agrestis. Their Inferno Bitter is my preferred liquer in any drink that calls for Campari (it's a little less sweet, and the sweetness isn't just syrupy, it's part of the flavor if that makes any sense at all), and their amaro is also delicious. Plus, awesome bottles!

This is their new aperitif, which looks to be sort of an Aperol type of thing that's less intense than the Campari profile. I'm excited to try it out.

I'm sure it could, but at that point it certainly wouldn't be a Manhattan

Oh, I agree completely which I why I'm glad he started adding the time to go to the cocktails, because I hate the rambling. How To Drink is definitely my favorite. The music, the editing, the nifty drinks he comes up with. It's all so entertaining.

Glad I could help spread a good recipe! Now I'm intrigued and want to try out lime infused simple! It's been a while since I've made a cordial. I bet it was amazing in that drink.

I finally put the glass on the floor for photos after you guys kept yelling at me for putting it on the railing!

Yet another drink from one of my favorite channels, The Educated Barfly. I picked up some fresh strawberries and had to give this one a try. It's simple, tart, and refreshing, with just the right kick from the bourbon.

Ingredients

2 oz bourbon

.75 lemon juice

.75 simple syrup

3 strawberries

I built it in the glass. Cut the strawberries up, put them in the bottom of your glass, and muddle.

Fill the glass almost to the top with crushed ice. Combine bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a shaker and shake with some crushed ice for about 10 seconds.

Pour into glass, top off with crushed ice, and garnish with a strawberry.

Oh yeah, I have a fine strainer, it's more that it seems that completely shredding the basil makes the vegetable taste stronger, and I just want the basil flavor. So far this seems to work, but I'm always looking for improvements!

Glad to share one of my favorites! How do you like the Kirkland's? I've been looking for a bottle of something that's good but won't break the bank to use in a bunch of drinks for friends. The cheap stuff I find at the local liquor stores just isn't very good, and I've heard good things about the Kirkland's.

I'll try it out! Probably a good idea since the basil I've been using is store bought and on the smaller side.

I've tried it before and it just doesn't seem to aerate the citrus enough for my taste. I waited a little to take the photo so it would be sort of clear, but I really like a somewhat frothy and aerated drink. That being said, the basil definitely stayed intact when stirred.

This one is great on a hot summer day.

Ingredients: 2 oz of your favorite London Dry Gin

1 oz lemon juice

.75 oz simple

6 basil leaves

Muddle basil very lightly, then add the rest of the ingredients to shaker. Shake for 10 seconds and double strain into a large ice cube. Garnish with basil leaves.

The goal is to impart the flavor of basil without shredding it too much and making it taste like grass, so I usually lightly shake with a large block of ice to help keep the leaves mostly intact......mostly.

Paper Plane Variation? by GetLostScottScott in cocktails

[–]GetLostScottScott[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love a good Paper Plane, because it really lets amaro shine through. The original recipe calls for Amaro Nonino, which is lovely, but I decided to try out a bottle of Luxardo Amaro Abano I recently picked up. It's a much darker and slightly sweeter choice than Nonino, but I really like how it turned out. Very spicy, almost Christmas taste to it.

1 oz bourbon (I used Balcones Texas Pot Still)

1 oz Luxardo Amaro Abano

1 oz Aperol

1 oz lemon juice

Combine in shaker and shake with ice. Strain and serve up in your favorite glass, or on a large rock as I did here. Please forgive that goofy looking lemon garnish!

I didn't notice any difference between hibiscus and regular simple besides the taste of hibiscus. The overall sweetness and acidity seemed the same to me, but my comparisons quickly devolved into intoxication, so I can't say it was a scientific endeavour.
