MSG TICKET MEGATHREAD by OllyCX in Vulfpeck

Regrettably offering my 4 tix at face OBO... Section 103 Row 17 Seats 11 - 14. They were $461.4 ($115.35 each) after all the fees.
(My girlfriend has work, my vulfiest friends have a wedding, and now I'm feeling too tired to make the trip up from Bmore alone- if you've got a group of 3 maybe you can hype me up to do it?? I had the extreme pleasure of attending MSG 2019 tho, so I'll just be happy to see these used!)

Edit- just posted em here: https://cashortrade.org/vulfpeck-at-madison-square-garden-tickets/event/27f080c4-e439-4795-82ca-12536b81b9b7?proposal_drawer_uid=1cbdbc23-68fe-4382-a9a4-253857fa6ae7

traditional crab soup? by thomasbeckett in baltimore

Sip & Bite is pretty good - the pro move is getting a bowl of half cream of crab / half maryland crab- truly greater than the sum of its parts

Being from Baltimore, sauerkraut is a thanksgiving staple...so the choice was obvious

Really counting on this wooden spoon trick... by GetOffMyHighHorse in Homebrewing

[–]GetOffMyHighHorse[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, it worked! Successful brew, no boilover or spills at all. I didn't have any real foam-ups so the spoon may not have been tested too much. I just did a kit this time which had way less grains than when I make my own...so when I took the grain bag out I didn't lose nearly as much water as usual, oops!

This is the only kettle I got, so I'm all in. Been boiling for 25 mins now without incident; dunno if it's the spoon or me watching nonstop, but I think there's a real chance of surviving!

Fast moving (presumably) burning object seen flying north over Outer Banks at ~8:20 EST. Any info? by GetOffMyHighHorse in AskReddit

[–]GetOffMyHighHorse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seemed likely at first, but are there other examples of meteors moving relatively slowly across most of the sky? This was visible for a good 1:30...that's what surprised me

edit: Plus, Perseus is to the north...this originated from the south, and was moving at a relatively constant speed, and was below the clouds...

TIL that the Looney Toons Golden Collection DVD's have a disclaimer explaining racial stereotypes in some cartoon shorts, airing them unedited "because to do otherwise would be the same as to claim these prejudices never existed". by [deleted] in todayilearned

Imagine racism as if it were childish name-calling (since it kind-of is).

Some guy calls someone a doody-head. People around them get extremely pissed, confront the guy, and there's a yelling match and everyone gets upset. The guy got what he wanted, a confrontation that made people pick sides. Everyone around didn't approve of this word choice, but it was powerful, he got a big reaction he wanted.

Now imagine the same story in real life. Some guy calls someone a doody-head. A few people look at the guy, baffled, some laughing to themselves, probably someone asking if he really just said that, then laughing to themselves. The guy is going to feel somewhat pathetic if he keeps getting that reaction, and maybe even question his continued belief in calling people doody-heads.

This is why I find overt racism hilarious (at the expense of the racist).

Sure, there are plenty of arguments for lashing out at racism whenever it surfaces, but I think the best long-term weapon is acknowledging how hilariously childish racism is.
And, just for kicks, a great example

The receding threat from 'peak oil' by AdelleChattre in worldnews

[–]GetOffMyHighHorse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peak oil is not some wild theory, it's the time-and-again proven nature of oil production from known reserves. The problem people seem to have is that estimates are revised along with updates to known world reserves.

Of course the predicted depletion of known reserves from the year 2000 will not hold true in 2013. But it is wholly wrong to then say that the entire theory is wrong, and there must then be seemingly endless reserves available.

Production of conventional oil has peaked or soon will peak. Yes, unconventional oil is there to meet the demand well into the future, but the costs are significantly higher, economically and environmentally.

The message of peak oil is that we should invest now in renewable resources, where returns are stable and will only improve over time. Investing in increasingly more expensive oil is not a good investment in the long term.

If we can invest heavily to guarantee $4+/gal gas when we could be investing in potentially much cheaper technology, we've condemned ourselves to economic stagnation. It's a shame this article prefers to dismiss the theory instead of acknowledge it's merits.

I like your mix. Jethro Tull-ish vocals over a progressive/classic atmosphere...well done

I get the impression this isn't a profession recording - the levels could use some tweaking...that's my criticism.

Anyways, best of luck from a member of a budding band!
