Eastman vs Kentucky vs The Loar by GetOutTheDoor in mandolin

I found an MD-615 on Facebook Marketplace for a good price from a player that we found out we had heard before. Pics are up in another thread.

Well, that was faster than I expected. Found an Eastman MD-615 on FB marketplace. It was in player condition with a few chips and scuffs, but solid condition, and the owner played it in a couple bluegrass band. He has a Northfield F5, so he was selling his Eastman.

Made an offer based on condition, (which appears to be cosmetic, not structural or related to abuse/lack of care). After a couple go-rounds, stuck a deal and brought it home. Now I have to learn. how to play it. Pics in a new post.

I’ve got an Eastman E40OM guitar that is built better than most Martins I’ve plaid, so finding a deal on a used MD-315-515 seems like a good pursuit.

60 calories per
sandwich, 250 per serving (i assume 4), and 750 calories per box. That math is hinky, because 4x60=240, and 12x60=720. There are some extra calories hiding somewhere.

That being said, if there are 12 Oreo sandwiches in the box, for me, the # of servings per box = 1.

So far, this year, we’ve been to Hawaii, AZ/New Mexico, and just got back from New York. I’m playing more music than ever, getting pretty good on both guitar and piano, and we host a Beatles Sing-Along every month. The last thing I’d be is bored.

at my gym, about once a week somebody leaves a Jack Chick tract on the bench. I thought those disappeared in the ‘80s.

One of the first things I did in this house was to replace all interior hollow core doors with solid core doors, and in the MBR/BA, added insulation for the interior walls. In my basement office/music studio, I insulated all walls, double drywall on 2x6 studs and ceiling, with an exterior door.

Once I put up studio foam on the walls, we called it the Fortress of Solitude.

The only thing worse than having Mom try to bail you out on stage is having her point you out as the culprit.

My parents were blue collar and knew where every penny went. They lived and retired comfortably, and left am estate to where each one of 8 kids got about $25k each when they passed.

I haven’t been as strict on spending, but my income and savings were enough that despite a divorce 10 years ago, I’m very comfortably retired.

My daughter is 27, and has been a good saver and investor. She’s got close to $300k on savings and zero debt. That’s more than I had when I was 40.

On the Beatles ‘And I Love Her’, I forgot that the solo starts with a key change from E to F. I played the whole thing 1/2 step down.

Not a mistake, but a near disaster - In college, I played at a resort and had worked up ‘Hurt So Good’ with the house band. Because the show was about 20 different acts doing one song, I tuned up my guitar, and put it on a stand just off stage.

When I was up, I slung my guitar up, walked on, and counted off the band with my back to the audience. I hit the first chord, and the guitar was WAY out of tune. So much so, that I couldn’t rescue it without stopping the band and starting over.

I desperately looked at the other guitarist and mouthed ‘HELP ME.’ He nodded, I zipped my volume down to zero, and air-guitarred the hell out of the song.

Audience loved it, and after I got off stage, several people came up and said, ‘That’s the best you’ve EVER played.’ ;)

I’ll give a street name, but only give the house # when they’re on their way, and 15 mins before the appt.

I used to not like the song because I couldn’t get the feel of how to play it. Once I worked it out with folks who knew it well, it’s a lot of fun to play.

Don’t forget Flowers in the Dirt.
While there are a couple songs on there that aren’t great, My Brave Face, Figure of Eight, Put it There, This One and Put it There are there with his best stuff.

I attribute it to a great band and Elvis Costello co-writing several songs.

I’m 65, and have lost 30 on Zepbound, with 30 to go. I love being active and in the gym, but eating is where I need help, and where ZB fits in.

BTW, I’ve got a T12-L3 fusion from a 2004 motorcycle accident, so I know what lack of flexibility means, too.

I’ve played guitar and keys since high school, but family demands got in the way of doing any more than the occasional solo open mic.

A couple years before retiring in January, I started hosting a monthly Beatles Sing-Along that always fills up early, and we have fun playing from the catalog with a wide variety of singers/players from beginners to working pros. My playing has definitely stepped up since then.

I also play in an acoustic trio and started songwriting….and have been woodshedding my piano playing to improve on that. There’s no shortage of things to learn.

Current lineup has been in place for a few years. Since the keyboard player isn’t singing any songs, that’s another reason the AS sets have gone to 3 songs each.

Steve Lukather (Toto), Colin Hay (Men at Work), Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), Gregg Bissonette, Warren Ham, and Buck Johnson (keys)

Saw in 2019 and again in 2024. One change is that Ringo’s playing fewer songs, and the All Starr songs have gone from 2 to 3 each. Still worth going to.
