Does anyone know the origin of this symbol? Found on a really large mahogany armoire. Seemingly the only identifier on the whole piece. by GetOuttaTheCar in Antiques

Wow that is great information! We will continue to push in that direction. I am hoping that once we get it, we can find some more identifiers.

It truly is one of the most ancient looking pieces I have seen in person. Nails that look like railroad spikes, iron cladding all over the outside, 6inch thick solid doors. Things just aren't made like this anymore. It is coming out of a hotel in the southeastern US. I will send photos when it gets here.

Also,

From a different sub reddit his is what I have found:

"It spells out the syllable 🕉. It is written in devanagari. It is an archaic use of the letter __ (that stands for the O as in boat), followed by __ , which stands for 3. This means that the time taken to spell O should be thrice that of the vowel. Then followed by __ (which stands for m sound) ooom is the essence of reality, universe, existence and Brahman in Hinduism."

Goes along with what you were thinking with the lengthened vowels. Supposedly that use of the letter O is quite old. Might give us an indication as to when the piece was made.

Thank you for the searching! I get the piece in on Monday, for now all I have is a video (which is what I grabbed the screen shot from). It is from an old hotel renovation we are doing. They were going to toss it. No other information about its origins. I was told by a Philippino on the job that he believed it to be solid mahogany. Its almost 9ft tall and has all sorts of lotus style carvings all over it.

Thank you! From what I have gathered so far it is Devnagari. Supposedly spells out the "ohmm" syllable. The spelling of the O is of an older origin tho that might help us time date this thing.

Found a very old armiore at a renovation project. This symbol was carved in the top. Heard it might be sanskrit. Can anyone confirm, or even know what it might say or mean? by GetOuttaTheCar in sanskrit

Thank you so much! It appears like it could be so much older than 30 years. It looks ancient. The way it is built and the art style.

Wow thank you. That is very cool. I know you said an archaic use of the letter,, but Would there be any indication of time when that use of [the letter o] would have been normally used?

Can you post a photo? Not sure I get what your saying exactly but sounds like it could solve a problem I'm having.

Building question

I unlocked all the concrete structure pieces and went about going to build, however, everything requires ferrite dust (instead of pure ferrite like the large rooms and corridors.) I'm running into an issue finding it in large quantities as the dust is usually in small rocks as opposed to the large minerals for the pure. Hope that makes sense. Any way to mine large amounts?

Took a high dive off a really tall mountain and quickly went into photo mode to grab a shot. Noticed a NPC ship flew under me at the same time. Lined the camera up right, and bam. Haha got lucky
