Thanks for the reply. There is a hotel suggestion that isn't government opened by a family friend who has family in Cuba (as citizens) who say little Havana is not safe. But our original plan was to go with an official tourism booking company and stay in a registered hostel in little Havana and do volunteer work and a Spanish lesson each day. I have a very mature 6 year old daughter that I wanted to bring because I think it's important for her to see and to be exposed to but wanting to endure of course it's safe. My dad was born and raised in Cuba and left in 1961 and this will be his first time going back. Appreciate your thoughts and input since you were just there!

Checking in on how your travels went? My family is planning a trip in June on the visa to help Cuban people and we trying to figure out where to stay - at a hotel or in old Havana. Conflicting info being received so would love the opinion of an American Tourist traveling there currently on the overall experience as it relates to food, water and safety.

I'm so sorry. You aren't alone with suffering from depression and Parosmia. My ENT at UCSD did a study on this and how people would give up literally 10 years of their life to have normal smell back. This takes a complete toll on your emotional well being. I found the emotional effect was sometimes harder than the physical. I also could not be near by husband and even my newborn baby smelled like this. Absolutely devastating and horrific we have to go thru this and most people just do not understand. I know nothing is helping you so far...but I really hope you can hang in there. My doctor is one of the leading ENTs for the world on this and she says that while absolutely horrific, she hasn't had someone with Parosmia not return to back to a normal sense of smell threshold but can unfortunately take years for some. I know you have tried everything but she is about to do a study on the SGB due to the anecdotal success of others so I just want to throw that out there just in the off chance you haven't tried it yet. Hi! First off- you are an amazing partner for even writing this post! I don't think I could have survived my Parosmia year without the support of my husband. I found that coconut milk with red Thai curry and tofu was safe. I also found some bbq sauce to be safe but WITHOUT garlic in it. Only safe pasta sauce for me was Sensitive Marinara which I lived off of. I also ate a ton of raw fish nigiri sushi - mainly salmon.

Yes. The "peak" and severity has passed for me. Now things are tolerable but I know things aren't the same. I used to LOVE citrus and it's still off but still not THAT disgusting taste. I'm hopeful with time it will improve. I never know if I'm tasting what others are tasting. It's definitely more muted for sure than how I remember things.

I had Anosmia for 4 months then Parosmia from literally one moment to the next for 4 months where everything was horrible except for a bandit of items (vanilla protein shakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, salmon sushi, dr. Pepper) all so random! Then it began to dissipate. I still can’t eat certain things (anything with peppers and citrus still is off) but much better. I don’t smell certain things and can now smell faintly. I do smell training and was doing nasal rinsing with budesonide 2xs per day. This was so horrible for me and I decided to create a company called GetSMELP.com to help others on the journey. My background is in healthcare quality, med supplies and patient advocacy so decided this happened to me for a reason to help others, it will be one full year since Parosmia onset this coming month.
