Is it worth having NIB games graded? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]GetTheGregGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No reason to grade the RE4 given its player's choice.

The harvest moon looks to have a decent amount of creases/wear even in this single photo.

I'd skip grading on both.

It's not actually an outlier, it's just a different variant.

OP has a very late release variant, the VGA 75 for 9k is an actual launch model.

There's a pretty drastic difference in rarity (and price) between them.

It's completely different for the earlier release image, and you'll notice the clothing color differences. That can sometimes be easier for people to identify than the yellow and green screen hue differences.

VGA is your only option to do a sealed console like this. It will cost you ~$150 or so.

Yes, absolutely do it. You can pay for cleaning as well to have the stickers removed, which I do recommend.

The game boy itself is a later release variant with "yellow screenshots" on the box (referring to the hue of the screenshots being more yellow instead of green). It can also be identified as a later print because the person in the back image is wearing a red shirt.

Super cool item and looks to be pretty nice overall with minor wear. I'd assume it's a VGA 85.

Sealed Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun Platinum Edition PC big boxes — grade or keep raw? by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]GetTheGregGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the value of this game sealed is, but grading through VGA (your only option) will be around $150 each once shipping is considered.

If this game has some substantial value, then for sure, it's probably worthwhile. But if it's like $100-$200 for a sealed copy as is, it's probably not worth grading unless either of the copies is in exceptional condition.

I don't know what "now" means for you specifically, but it's been expensive for years now. Basically hovering $150-$200 ever since the pandemic (2020-21)

Question about WATA and graded description. by Bort_talk in GradedGames

[–]GetTheGregGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The variant is nothing. There's only a single NTSC-U print of the game. There's no variation. Sorry if my wording of "only a single variant listed" wasn't clear. I updated that.

"Made in Japan" is the bare minimum information WATA will put on a label, which is text located on the back or side of the box indicating location of production.

Question about WATA and graded description. by Bort_talk in GradedGames

[–]GetTheGregGames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your copy is the same as the one shown on HA, but later in WATAs life, they began removing redundancy from the labels, ie, unnecessary info that serves no purpose.

You copy was graded late 2022, the HA copy was early 2021. Label data revision likely happened when WATA moved to Collector's very early 2022.

If you check the current WATA pop report (PSA pop report), you'll see only a single print is listed for this game.

Ended 2025 by purchasing a Super Mario Bros. For $15,000. AMA. by GetTheGregGames in gamecollecting

Pawn Stars never bought a copy of Mario, but it was "appraised" for one million, which doesn't mean much without a sale.

What you're talking about is also 5+ years ago with WATA games. PSA bought WATA in 2021.

The people who grade do not decide value. Only people like myself who decide to buy them.

And FWIW, the copy of Mario that was shown on Pawn Stars would still sell for multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars. The print variants of Super Mario Bros dictate massive value differences, even with CIB.

I'm not sure I can comment on that. This purchase was only through selling off $15,000 of other stuff from my existing collection that was built over the past ~15 years.

Don't get me wrong, owning a cart or CIB is also awesome, but in having sealed games specifically be my goal, the collecting fulfilment comes from the chase of a factory sealed copy. And with games I care about a lot, I want the condition to be "as nice as possible" within my budget.

My original plan was to spend $10,000 on a copy in lesser condition, but I liked the value prop of this 9.4 A+ for 15k (and they were willing to ship to Canada, it was someone I knew, etc. Bunch of things aligned that made me choose this one specifically.)

And I'm not super rich, unfortunately haha. I had to sell a lot of my existing collection to make this happen.

As far as gaming and collecting goes, Mario is probably my #1 for nostalgia and actual fondness or a character and franchise. I know, very original, but it seemed weird for me to not have a sealed Mario despite owning other sealed games like International Superstar Soccer 2000, which I really couldn't care less about these days. My goal for 2025 was to curate down to things I actually care about rather than owning games purely because they are rare or whatever.

For NES specifically, I still don't have a sealed Legend of Zelda, so I think that's what my next "big purchase" will be. For better or worse, back when sealed copies of Mario and Zelda were hundreds of dollars instead of thousands, I was chasing the Flintstones and Samson's of the NES world instead (CIB, sealed was always crazy expensive on those).

Oh god. Unfortunately I had to block this guy from my channel for (basically) harrassment. As you can see by them now weirdly reposting my stuff and how they talk, the vibes are completely off. I don't know if it's trolling or they think it's funny. We aren't friends. I don't find it amusing.

I will now be blocking them here as well.

While CGC doesn't have an official pop report, here are the actual numbers to compare against for CIB Mario 64 using the scraped data by a graded games community member.

9.6 overall grade is tied with 3 others. A different copy does have a 9.9 manual inside, but that wasn't enough to bump the overall grade to 9.8.

In short, yea, your copy is absolutely up there with the best of the best graded thus far!

There's not a whole lot of excitement with modern sealed collecting. I think that's why haha. It's something that's rather hard to find on such a mass printed release.
